THE REPUBLICAN. LOCAL DEPARTMENT.
REM0VAL.-- Buck & Toan have removed their Mammoth Hardware Store to the North Room of the New Brick Block. [28-1t The Presbyterian Sociable wlll be held next Tuesday evening at the residence of Mrs. John L. Westervelt, in Walnut Grove. A cordial invitation is extended to all to be present. A number of of drafted men readied here yesterday from Indianapolis, having been honorably discharged. About 800, we learn, were discharged at that place on Tuesday. We also learn that the 155th Regiment which left Indianapolis a week or so ago for Washington, has been ordered back to be mustered out. Common Pleas Court for this county convenes next Monday week. The editor of the Democrat, speaking of the Corporation election, in his last issue, raps his brother-in-law and a few of his German friends over the knuckles in the following spirited manner: The latter (fusion ticket) was a very weak affair, and only served to demonstrate the malice of those who concocted it, and the folly of their followers. We deem it due to those who were put in nomination by this new hermaphrodite faction, to say that they all, with the exception of Babbington and Boyd, promptly repudiated the concern as soon as informed of their nomination, and that their names were used without their knowledge, consent or authority. The scheme was concocted by a few dissatisfied men whose claim to office had not been favorably listened to by their party friends, and who were therefore anxious to show their spite even at the expense of their consistency. They have made their effort ingloriously failed, and it remains to be seen what foolish thing they will do next." For some reason Mr. Boyd has not been a favorite with the clique whiich rules the so-called Democratic party in this place, pnobably because he volunteered to fight in defiance of the Union. Be this as it may, we were not prepared to hear his own brother-in-law snub him in the manner he does in the above extract. But the Democrat has something to say about a faction, and intimates that those who composed it are a scabby set, spiteful, inconsistent and given to doing foolish things. Are they any more spiteful, inconsistent and foolish than the junior editor ant proprietor of the Democrat, who refused to vote for McClellan last fall? Had he not better pluck the beam out of his own eye before he attempts to pick the mote out of his brother's? An early answer to these queries is requested. REMOVAL.--Buck & Toan have removed their Mammoth Hardware Store to the North Room of the New Brick Block. [28 1t Squire Tutttle is now in a condition once more to accommodate all who want ambrotypes and Married---On the 8th inst., by Rev. Mr. Lusk, Mr. Cary R. Smith, of Valparaiso, and Miss Mary A. Alleman, daughter of Mr. John Alleman. The happy couple have our profound thanks for the delicious cake sent to this office, as well as our best wishes for their future welfare and happiness. "May perpetual harmony their life attend. And fortune still the well match'd pair befriend, May she when Time has added to his years, Love her old man and cherish his white hairs; Nor he perceive her charms through age decay But think each happy sun his bridal day." We are under many obligations to our friend, Mr. George Spalding, for a bunch of elegant pie plant, and to our old friend, Mr. L. H. Andrews,

things. A Young Artist.---J. R. Losey, though a mere youth, has established his reputation here as an Artist of superior merit. Indeed, we doubt whether he has any superior in the west. His photographs look equal!y as well as those executed in the cities. He seems to be a perfect adept in his profession in all its branches. Those who want correct pictures, executed in the best style, are invited to give him a call. Removals---Buck & Toan have removed their Mammoth Hardware establishment to the north room in Brownlee and Humrichouser's new brick block, and Dickson & Woodbury have removed their immense stock into the south room of the same block. Both these establishments are creditable to the place and deserve to be patronised by all who want any thing in their line. The proprietors of both houses are liberal and enterprising business men. The Song Messenger of the North-West, for May, has been issued. It contains several beau- tiful pieces of music besides the usual quantity of reading matter. Price 60 cents per annum. Root & Cady publishers, Chicago. The American Phrenological Journal and Life Illustrated, for May, contains a number of able and interesting articles relating to the science of Phrenology appropriately illustrated. Terms $2 per annum in advance. Address Fowler & Wells, New York. REMOVAL.---Buck & Toan have removed their Mammoth Hardware Store to the North Room of the New Brick Block. 28-1t "The night Shows stars and women in a better light." Not so with Dr. D. H. Seeleye's LIQUID CATARRH REMEDY which needs testing that its virtues may be appreciated. As yet it has never failed to cure, if the directions were reasonably followed. Mrs. Banning's Cordial for Children Teething. This medicine is having a rapid sale wherever it has been introduced, and is said to be one of the most efficient agents, in the way of easing and assisting children in their first mechanical work--cutting teeth-- yet known. It softens the gums, allays all inflamation, and alleviates pain, it cures Diarrhoea, Bowel Complaint, &c. The Swedish Brand---As its name indicates is a peculiar product of the inventor, whose native land is Sweden. It is an article having a mellow and delicate flavor, peculiarly rich and palatable; is highly cordialized, and especially adapted to the use of all ladies, who may require an agreeable, stimulating tonic imparting strength to the system, giving an increased vitality to the whole human frame. It is a great favorite in Sweden, so much so that it may be styled the national beverage.. No family should be without it. Taken in the shape of a hot punch at night before going to bed, it makes a delicious draught, producing a healthy perspiration, dispelling a cold more effectually than any other mixture that can be taken.---Try it once and be convinced. C. W. ROBACK, Proprietor, 56, 58, 60. and 62 East Third Street Cincinnati. 27-m1
That 'Reverend Gentleman,". Again. Mr. Editor,---The editor of the Democrat thinks he can have no controversy with such a man as I am, and intimates as a reason that his "code of morals" is of such superior quality that he could not come down to me without getting contaminated. As to the superior quality of his morals I will not now pretend to be a judge; but if he really thinks his morals superior I reckon there "aint many that can see it in that light;" at least I do not want to be on a level with him, in a moral sense. If he could "have no controversy" with me why did he commence it by attacking me with lying abuse? He seems to be one of that class of men who are very brave when they think there is no danger-- who like the little dogs are always snapping and snarling, especially at decent folks,
--but when met on their own ground suddenly find out they don't want to fight, but just wanted to scare a body. My business is to hurt the devil, and when he prowls I take it that he has the worst end of the bargain; and as he is that enemy of mankind which we can neither kill nor capture, but can a!ways put to flight, I will try to be satisfied when he simply beats a retreat.
