PRESBYTERIAN SOCIABLE—Will be held this evening at the residence of R. HEWITT, Esq. Go all ye who ought to. ======= RETURNED FROM PIKE'S PEAK.—M. A. KIDWELL, Esq., who a month or two since, in company with Cap. WM. SHIRLEY, went to the New Gold "diggins" has just returned. Mr. Shirley came back with him as far as Missouri. Mr. Kidwcll represent the "Peak family" as in deplorable condition. He says many thousands of people are at Pike's Peak without means to sustain themselves there, or to get away with. One man offered to sell three claims for $30, for which he had refused $3,500—to pay his fare home with. A very few arc making large sums by speculating in claims, a few are making <good> wages <occasionally>, but a large majority are actually doing nothing, but hope for something "to turn up." A large class are turning their attention to politics, and endeavoring to get fat offices. Mr. K. fears there will be much suffering in the "mines" this winter—notwithstanding provisions are very plenty. For further particulars see Kidwell himself—in another column! ======= COUNTY FAIR.—The Marshall County Pair, let all bear in mind, will be held in this place, next Wednesday, Thursday, Prf,- the 12:h. 13th and 14th of j ) . fc m- wpMg former exhihitiona.
