Mrs. M. A. Theatro, Minneapolis. Mina. Pemna Medicine Co., Columbus, 0. Gentlemen "As a remedy for catarrh I can cheerfully recommend Pemna. In these shops there 10 aj-iitu a yautut uuifvsuv Uiauc vi a special steel which is soft enough to permit of its being hammered and Ehaped, as far as may be necessary. without heating. There are anvils there, and hammers uro used, so that i , . . these tune-honored accessories of the but there i3 no lire, no bellows with a grimy, swathy, stalwart blacksmith swaying on the handle with one hand while lie gently pokes the burning coal in the forge with the other. There is no smoke here, and no fb'ing sparks, nor is there the long familiar odor of the burning hoof when the hot shoe is laid against it. These places are horseshoeing parlors. One of those uptown occupies a long room that was designed for a store In a building that stands on a corner. The shop proper, occupying the greater part of the space, opens on the side street. The office, or reception-room, of the horseshoeing parlor at the front end of the store, occupies a square of space of tho width of the building and running back about twenty feet, where an office railing is placed, dividing the reception-room from the blacksmith shop. On the floor of the office or receptionroom there is a $200 rug; there are comfortable chairs about for visitors w for customers waiting; there Is a desk for the manager, and there are potted palms. And all this Is separated from the shop itself only by that office railing across the inner end of this reception-room, beyond which one sees down the length of the shop men busily engaged shoeing horses in this blacksmith's shop without a fire. FOOT WEARINESS. Those Who Maat Stand Still Should Be on ltug. A great many years ago the oldfashioned back-country housekeeper learned that when she had any work to do that involved a great deal of standing on her feet in one place, she was the gainer by folding a piece of carpet or a rug and placing it on th? floor under her feet. It has taken the business men a long time to learn just what a great many of the grandmothers and aunties of this world knew very long ago, namely, that people wlin stand in one place for any length Of time would save a great portion of tüeir loot and i-g weariness if they arranged for something soft on tho floor. One sensible man spread a thick coating of tan bark on the floor of his warehouse; another used sawdust and found it a great advantage. Where these substances cannot be introduced with safety or convenience, a light platform of rather thin boards for the men to stand on has ben found of great value in the saving of strength. In offices where. men are constantly on their feet thick manlla matting is helpful in avoiding that extreme weariness to which active people are subject. Wearing loose shoes with a thick Insole of felt is recommended when floors are extremely hard and unyielding. COUNTRY THINGS FLOURISH, lirtn Curlosltlee In the City of Loadon. Country things which flourish in London have been receiving a good deal of attention of lato. At the present time there may be seen a number of fine bunche-s of fusi-ripening 'black grapes on the south wall of the Hospital for Incurable Children atCheLea. No duult the poor mites within will be enjoying them before long. In a garden at the King's ro::d end of Flood street, Chci.-ca. there is a mulberry tree which ha this year borne a fine crop of fruit. It was picked during
the present month. Mulberries are not always to be obtained in London, and they are expensive. This, by the way, has been a good year for mulberries in various parts of the country. They have been allowed to fall from 'the trees and rot on the ground in some places. The reed harvest is a small matter, but not one to be altogether , overlooked in districts where this tall. handsome plant nourishes. The mowers are now among the reeds, which go down before the old fashioned scythe. They are bound up in sheaves like the corn, and when dry, stacked and used as they are required for thatching purposes. London Express. A LIFE SAVED.
