Mrs. Fred Uoteet is in Herrien Springe, Mich., where she was called to attend the sickness of her mother. Mrs. A. C. Thompson left this morning for Cleveland, Ohio, where she will remain during the winter. David Fertig, who has been reported quite ill, is rapidly improving. He is now able to be on his feet. Miss Anna Ulomdell and Mrs. Chas. Johnson returned to South Hend this noon having visited in the country near Donaldson. Elkhart has closed a deal with a bicycle factory which guarantees to expend $60,0JO a year for three years before the bonus is paid. H. 13. Allen made a bussness trip to Grover today. He has been placed in charge oi the Heinz Salting work6 there for the coming winter. The new U. Ü. church at IJurr Oak will be dedicated on Sept. 24, lS'J'J by Rev. Geo. Sickafoose, presiding elder. A good crowd is expected. Clint Huff, of JJremen, passed through Plymouth this raorniug on his way to Manchester, Term., where his father owns a large tract of timber. The followiDg couples were issued licenses to wed Sept. l'Jth: Chas. C. Holem and Magcrie Hottorlf, John M. Humphry and Clara A. Keelar. Mrs. S. A. Ullery and son Clem will leave shortly for a visit in the country near Dayton, Ohio. They expect to visit J. Y. Solenberger aud wife. E. C. Mrtriinda'e, Samuel Parker, Charles Ktllson aid Harley Logan went to Rochester today to set ca?es for the opening of next term of court. The sky was noticed to be quite bright in the southeast last evening as though a house in that direction was burning and producing the illumination. J. H. Castlemac, of Culver, brought his mother, Mrs. Mary Castleman, to Plymouth today on her way to Collins, Iowa. She has been his guest for several months. The Bremen Hlacks are making an effort to have eames with the Indians on next Saturday and Sunday. The latter team has been making a tour through Ohio, and is expected to reach Bremen on their return trip at about the time referred to. Last Saturday evening some one poisoned Mrs. Hates' dog. While the poor animal lay on the sidewalk groaning in the last agonies of death a boy who was passing stooped to sympathize with it. Naturally he was bitten, but the wound is not thought to be serioup. Army officers from the headquarters at Ft. Wayne have circulated around town advertising for able bodied men. This is getting to be quite an old thing. Considering the fact that the government is not allowed to draft men for foreign service it is liab'e to become much older. Up to date, the recruiting officer in this city for the Fort Niagara regiment, has received ten or twelve applications Out of this number only one or two of the applicants have passed the physical examination. The government regulations in this capacity are quite rigid. The same ofliceis who now have their headquarters here recently took about twenty volunteers from the vicinity of Muncie. Miss Minnie Martin, of Etna Green, left for Indianapolis today where she is a student in the echool for the blind. Chas. II. Wallace is now buying poultry of all kinds in the McKelvy building. Bowell, Ezra Barnhill and Smith Pomeroy are attending the soldiers reunion at Loganeport. Clint Grube has returned from a three month's sojourn in North Dakota and will take charge of the Fertig school for the coming year. Tom Cheney went to Loganeport this noon and will bring Geo. Robins back with him. The latter has been a patient at Longcliffe. Pete Kruyer informs us that Dr. Reynolds took George R. Goodlander to the county infirmary yesterday. Master Goodlander is only one day old. Wood Wanted Subscribers who want to pay their subscriptions with wood should bring it in now. We can accept wood wheo we need it, and we need it now. The body of Joseph Emory was taken through the city today en route for Fort Wayne where it received burial. Joseph Emory is well-known in this county having dwelt with John Nicols, at Twin Lake, for years. One new text Las been introduced in the high school this year. Hoostan's physical geography has been superceded by the more recent and complete geography ot Ralph Tarr. The latter book is in use at the state normal and several of the colleges. In the labratory at the Washington building individual benches with full equipment for chemical experiments have been fitted up. Individual experiments have long been a leading criterion of the scientific classes but individual stalls is an inovation. The Chatllin colored quintette gave their concert at the M. E. church as was advertised, and they agreeably surprised the large audience present. The concert was pronounced by critics one of the beiit ever given in this city. The boys took up a collection amounting to about 820 which will be added to the college fund. From Thursday's Dally. Mi6s Meta Behrings is reported quite ill. II. S. Fred DeLong left this morning for the Otterbein university at Westerville, Ohio, where he will remain during the next school year. Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Mitterling, of Bourbon, are visiting relatives in Cincinnati. They passed though Plymouth on their way thither thiB morning. A. E. Rhodes is surviving his recent injuries with wonderful vitality. He will probably get well. The physicians in charge should receive ample credit. An odd looking engine on the L. E. & W. train was an interesting object for examination tnis morning. Machinists in great numbers inspected it. Several of our Plymouth boys have been admitted into the ranks of the Niagara regiment. Fred Schisley, Sol Miller and Herb Love are among the number. In a wreck at Colfax this morning the fireman, conductor and brakeraan were killed. The noon Vandalia train at this city was considerably delayed on that account. The band concert at Argos Tuesday night was well attended. A number of rigs drove over from Plymouth. This was the last open air concert of the season in that town. The remains of Mrs. Eva Kemp were brought from South Bend this noon and from here conveyed to Argoa, where the funeral was conducted from the Christian church. The Bourbon Fair officers are actively engaged in preparing for their annual exhibition October 3, 4, 5 and C.

Ii. Personett his returned from an extended tour through the south. He has concluded that he likes Alabama better than Indiana and will move his family there to reside. Nearly one hundred applications far admission to the State Soldiers' Home at Lafayette are now on file, and there are but fifteen vacant beds. Under the new county reform law commissioners of counties can not erect cottages on the grounds without an appropriation first having been made, and no new cottages are projected at this time. A suicide occurred in the country about 17 miles east of here last Monday. The unfortunate person in this instance was Mrs. Geo. Sellers, who took paris green and died a tragic and torturous death. The motive of the act was undoub tedly continued brooding, though, it is said, she suffered a casual disappointment in not being able to attend the Knox fair and hence hurried to perform the act which would have come in the course of things at any event. French el e Du (Jard and wife passed through Plymouth today. The former is a full bred Cuban, in this country for the firet time. The latter by her own story is of Indian birth and was employed as cook on the Julia, a boat in the harbor of Havana at the time of the blowing up of the Main. She bears several scars on her face which she attributes to the (lying debris on the occasion of that memorable event. It seems that she met her prtseut partner in life on the docks at Havana. Charley Turney, who was scalded at the hoop factory last week, & till remains in a bad condition but is improving. A parly was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. II. Laudeman, west of Argos Saturday evening, in honor of Mrs. Laudeman's 31st birthday. About sixty suppers were served to the guests. Mrs. S. C. Jesse Finney entertained a number of their friends at their home on Tuesday evening in honor of their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Featberstone, of Greenwood, Ind. The Argos Whites defeated the Atwood base ball team Tuesday afternoon by a score of 31 to 12. Tippecanoe Snap Shots. Dell Hell has moved to W. D. Fawley's farm northeast of town. John II. Goodman now occupies the Bugbee property west of the church. Nelson Fry mi re and family, of South Bend, are visiting her mother Mrs. Bell. Dr. Kingle attended the meeting of Physicians of Indiana at Indianapolis last week. County Supt. Marks held a business meeting at the school house last Thursday. David Harrington was elected chairman of the institution for the ensuing school year and Harley Taylor secretary. This makes Mr. Harrington's fifth year in succession as chairman. The Dunkards held a business meeting or council meeting last Saturday and decided to build a new church here. They have about 6800 raised on subscription. Nathan Swihart, George Swihart and Joshua Mow were appointed as building committee. The Uebekah lodge held an ice cream festival on last Saturday evening. Amanda Baugher and children from Irondale are here visiting. The water there does not agree with them so they came here to recuperate. KdGoard has returned to Wheat field to work for a few weeks. The schools in this township begin next Monday morning with the following named teachers: Dist. No. 1, J. F. Laird; 2, Bertha Fites; 3, E. N. Files; 4, A. M. Laird; 5, C. V. Warren; 6, C F. U. will meet Tuueday afternoon with Mrs. Davis. Mrs. Gilmore, ot Plymouth, came Tuesday for a visit with her mother, Mrs, Chaplin. Andrew Messner, north of town, reports the arrival of a nice nine and onehalf pound boy at his home last Friday night. Mr. Himes, living on the Summy farm, last week sold to 1). A.
