LOCAL BREVITIESFrom TuefldayB Daily. Bert Stout is back from Missouri and is reported to be quite sick. Wanted A girl for housework. Call at J. R Losey'e store, Plymouth, ltw Mr3. Nathan Boyer and family have gone to South Bend to reside permanently. A license for marriage was issued yesterday to E. A. VancureD and (lail S. SwoYtrland. Ray Tanner returned trom Chicago last night and will soon leave for Perdue University. George Bollinger has quit work at the (lern ciear store and expects to move south shortly. Rev. Thornberry is at Rolling Prairie where he was called to preach the funeral of a little child. A few good young bulls and some ex
tra good Poland China pigs, both 6exes
for sale. C. T. Mattinoly. wl
Mrs. B.J.Carney, of Grinnell, Iowa, who has been visiting Mrs. Julia E.
Work, returned home today.
The Novelty put on a force of work
men yesterday and will probably run without interim from now on. Mrs. George II. Thayer and family have returned from a summer's outing in Vermont and other eastern states.
Mrs. Marx Fryman is visiting her mother, Mrs. John Zehner, at Argos.
The latter is reported to be quite ill.
Mrs. Margaret Sider goes to Knox next week where she will remain and
ke-jp house for her son Francis Sider.
Remember that our apple butter jars,
10, 15 and 20 gallon jars, are for sale
very cheap at the When grocery on Laporte street. 2w Mrs. S.C. Mathewson went to Goshen
today where she will attend a family reunion held in honor of her mother,
who is eiehty years old.
The people would like for Alderman
Leonard to explain what he meariB by
"boys play." It seems that he tried a
little "boys play" himself.
Miller & Smith have finished a well
for Hiram Schäfer and another for Mr.
DeMcss. If you have any work in the pump line let them know about it. lw
Don't miss us. Our apple butter jars,
milk crocks and jugs, holding 10, 12, 15 and 20 gallons, are foi sale cheap at the
"When grocery on Lapcrte street. 2tw
Liberty Cross has purchased a horse
from parties in South Bend. The animal, so Liberty confidently affirms, makes a mile in 2:15. It is one of the
best horses in town. The court house officials were an
noyed this morning by a swarm of bees
which made the air black in front of the doors and windf ws. Evidently the
insects had escaped from their hive and
were hunting a Ltw home.
The affair given at Hill's hall last
night was one of the rroet dtlighttul of the season. The crowri was select, con
genial and jovial. lohn Capron and
Miss Lions furniehed the music and the
re6t of the company danced.
Among the divines leaving here this
morning for the U. B. conference at
Bourbon were Rev. Lambert, Rev. Sny
der. Rev. C. V. Mull, of Walkerton and Kev. DeLong. They will receive their appointments either Saturday or Sunday. Mr. Simons authorizes the Independent to state that as 6oon as he can get his new machinery placed, he will commence furnishing incandescent lighting all night. He expects to have h:s new machinery placed within two or three weeks. John C. Eller, formerly of West township, is visiting at Donaldeon and other points in this county. Mr. Eller is a soldier in the U. S. army and is at present located at Fort Reno, Indian Territory. He has not visited Marshall county for fifteen years. Mr. Simons lights the city all night for S70 per arc light. This is two dollars less than the proposition of the Famous company. The price to be charged for incandescent lighting by Mr. Simons is the same as the proposition of the Famous company, 50 cents per month. Dan'l Wiltrout is resigned to three or four months confinrnent befpre he will be able to step by use of the leg which was broken yesterday. The physician pronounces it aerious because of the location of the injury in the femur. At Mr. Wiltrouts age such injuries heal slowly. Warden Harley has abolished the lockstep, in which fashion the prisoners have been made to march for many years and since last Sunday the convicts have been marching two abreast when passing about the prison in 6quads. The reason for the change is that the lockstep has always left its mark on the men after being releaved and an exconvict could be 'jetted by the peculiar gait.
