Kverett Fields went to Lakeville this morning where he has taken charge of a barber shop. The following names have been added to the marriage licenses for Sept. 17. Sidney C. irassman, Fruit G. Freese. The W. C. T. V. will meet with Mrs. J. C. Davis on West South street, Sept. K, An election of otlicers will be held. Mrs. Mary liriner, of Belgrade, Neb. who has visited Mrs. Mary Walters in the country started for her home this afternoon. H. S. Kodgers and son Fdgar left for Valparaiso this afternoon. After visiting relatives in that city they will go to Chicago to buy stock. Chas. Woodward, whose parents reside in this city, was aboard the train Sunday when Consul Proskowetz, the Austrian minister, was killed. Mrs. Minnie Shaffer and children returned to their home in South Bend today after visiting the family of S. F. Hendricks southwest of Plymouth. R. (i. Cunningham's funeral was held yesterday -t Fapaz. He was twentynine years old at the time of his death. His body was shipped from LaGrange where he died. Mr. Chas. Howe and his nine-year-old daughter Zern recently made Plymouth aDd the return trip to Argos on their wheels. This is a remarkable ride for a child so young. Large schools of carp may be viewed in the water near the Plain bridge. They would be tempting game for the spea did not the law prevent the use of that impliment. J. W. Cook, of West Union, la., is visiting in this city. Mr. Cook was a resident of Plymouth years ago. He is now on his way back from the soldier's reunion at Cincinnati. Airs. Moore has secured Miss Francis McNulty, of Ft. Wayne, an experienced trimmer to assist her during the season. Miss Phillips will also help her as soon as she recovers from her illness. Charles Simon, of Goshen, one of Studebaker'b tigers died Sunday night at the regimental hospital at Indianapolis of typhoid malarial fever. This makes the lfith death in the 157th regiment. Mrs. ;-. Wellman and daughter, of Flk Papids, Mich., are visiting the family of Jacob Rhodes in the country. Miss Madge Rhodes, who has been visiting in the above named city, returned home today. Mrs. Guy Collins, of Michigan City, while heating a curling iron over a gas oline stove yesterday, caught lire, her clothing being almost burned from her body. Her injuries are such that they may prove fatal. She was married about a month ago. John Thomas is expecting a visit from S. Parrat, a young Fnglishman, who was a companion with his son 1 rank in Klondike. The young man can probably impart some interesting news concerning the distant Marshal! county adventurer. Chas. W. Hayden, of Chicago, is now to be found at the Losey stand in the place of Mr. Kodgers. Mr. Hayden is an experienced watch maker, coming directly from the large wholesale repair shops of Chicago, where nothing but the most difficult work comes to hand Papers and records are accumulating so rapidly at the cou I house that with in the next fifteen yearn an addition to the main building will be necessitated the shelf room is very limited in both the recorder's and the clerk's office. the offices most need at present are steel roller cases. The books are rapidly wearing and rotting away. A horse tied in the vicinity of the Vandalia depot got frightened at a train today at noon and ran away. The carriage which it was harnessed to was quickly converted into a wreck. The owner of the rig was a farmer whose name is Seymour, and who resides near In wood. No one was in the carriage at the time of the accident. Lovers of the pawpaw or Hoosier banana will be glad to learn that there is an enormous crop th's year. The bushes and small trees are loaded with them, much to the delight of those who have a tooth for tue fruit. Just about now they are beginning to ripen and despite the large number which have been taken away green it is still no trouble to find them. Don't be a doubter. From Wednesday's Dally. Mrs. Daniel Denman is quite sick. Peter Holem is confined to his bed with ailments of the season. The carpenters began work yesterday at the Orphans' Home building. Alvy Covert was taken suddenly ill yesterday and is no better today. George Protsman is erecting a new barn on his farm three miles north. Mr. and Mrs. J. W.Anderson left for Porfario Diaz, Mexico, today noon. Jo and Fred Fich went to Mishawaka today to attend the funeral of a relative. It is now estimated that the deficit of the state fair will be between $5,000 and !?M,000. Miss Bertha Stockgen, who has been afilicted with a painful case of rheum atism, is rapidly improving. The dentists of Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan are holding an annual meeting in Flkhart today. The Mennonites have closed a suc cessful meetiL g held in a tent during the last three weeks near South Bend A Sunday-school convention for North township, will be held next Sun day at Shiloh. A large attendance is ex pected. Miss Mary Kipley, of Ft. Wayne, has lain for four days in a cataleptic state, with her jaws locKed so that she can not receive nouiishment. Mrs. N. T. Gause, an organizer of humane societies, spent the moruiug in Plymouth. She has recently been the guest of a South Bend humane society. Thomas Cole leaves this evening for Sivan, Ind., where he will attend the reunion of the 5th ind., Light Artillery, best known perhaps as Simonson's battery. Fight Muncie druggists were arrested and lined, last week, for selling liquor. Dr. Callen, Indianapolis, is prosecuting them in the interest of the state liquor league. Kobert Buck ft Son's furniture factory at Laporte, with the ware room and a large quantity of lumber was destroyed by iire last night. Loos Invitations have been extended for the wedding of (ins Brienierer, of Ft. Wayne, and Miss Clara Langfeldt, ol this city, to be held at the bride's home on Wednesday next. Hunters say the woods are fairly alive with gray and fox squirrel, and as soon as the trees lose some of their foliage there will be no trouble experienced in getting plenty of the frisky animals. Two tramps were mangled by a Grand Tn nk train, near Mill Creek. They were removed to Fpworth hospital at South Bend where they died. One man was William Mansell. The other is unknown. The last of the series of weekly concerts by the Argos band will be given at that place Tuesday evening, Sept, 27, and as it is the last a special program is being arranged. A large crowd will probably go from here. Grant Tank, the well known travelling man w' o makes Plymouth fre quently, is a candidate for the nomination for sheriff of St. Joseph county be tore the democratic convention to be held in South Bend tomorrow. A syndicate headed by John D. Rockefeller and J, Pierpont Morgan, of New York, together with the American Malting company, is trying, it is asserted, to gain control of the breweries in the smaller cities of northern Indiana. Offers are said to have been made for properties in Fort Wayne, Lafayette,
Peru and Huntington. The purpose is stated to be to organize a company to take over the small brewing estab liehme: ts which have been fairly successf il. Fd Corey, the pugilist, is out in the South Bend Times with a challenge to fight Uardenbrook, the Walkerton bruiser, for the championship of the state and $ 00. The people's excursion; SI next Sunday to Chicago via Pennsylvania lines. Special train leaves Plymouth at 5:30 a. m., central time. Returning leav Chicago at 8 and 11 JO p. m.
