E church will meet Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Cole on Walnut street. Candidates have on their hustling clothes and are doing effective work for themselves. Liberty street between Sophia and Laporte streets is in a very bad condition caused by the recent heavy rains. The first ward democratic convention will be held in the free silver club room tonight to nominate a candidate for councilman for that ward. It is the talk on the streets today that the next city council elected will favor street paving. Folitics in this particular will cut do tigure, so the story goes and only those that tavor street paving will receive any consideration.

The Independent contains the announcement today of Ely R. Milner as a candidate for the Democratic nomina tion for county clerck . Mr. Milner is a successful farmer and a true blue Democrat. The sportsmen, who have been out of the city within the past few days, say that there are many ducks on all the streams, and lakes in this vicinity. The hunting season has opened up with much tine sport despite the very wet season. "1 dont care who is elected," said a man this morning, -'just so we get a council that will see that the proper street improvements are looked after. Our streets are in a horrible condition and will remain so just as long as the present mode of street work is kept up." John Cook aged about 18 years died at his home on South street Sunday afternoon. He had been an employ at the Novelty for the past four years. He was a quiet and well respected young man. He was on the streets Saturday appearantly in good health. He was atllicted with consumption bi t no one expected his death so soon. 1 he first of April will soon be here and it remains to be seen whether or not Plymouth will miss any of her citizens who had that date set for heading for the Klondike. The sun shines on both sides of the road and no better time could be selected to make the start As the lime draws near to the primary the people become more anxious and interested. Every one is anxious to see a good ticket nominated and to that end they are working. "May the best man wie" is an old saying and we hope it will prove true in the coming con vention . Joseph E Marshall the present incumbent of the sheriff's otlice announces that hi is a candidate for reelection. Mr. Marshall has been a faithful official and his many friends will be glad to honor him with their suffrages. Joseph Locher celebrated his 60th birthday Sunday evening at his home on east Walnut street. A number of his friends were present and the evening was enjoyably spent. It is said by some that he left Flymouth about three month! ago. A swindler is traveling about this part of the state working the barbers and waiters by selling white coats such as are worn by the two crafts. He exacts a quarter in advance for measuring and explains that the goods will follow by express cod. That is the last you hear of him. Mr. John N. Wilson is announced as a candidate for city treasure!. As he is the only candidate in the field for this ollice, it is evident that be will lthe nominee. Mr. Wilson is one ol Plymouth's beet men and it gres without saying that his election is desired by a great majority ot the voters. W. H. Holdman. who embezzled SSOlOOO from the county during his four year term as treasurer of Elkhart county, has been sentenced to serve live years in the penitentiary and to pay a line of -Si .080.
