The Maine disaster and the Cuban question occupied the entire day in the senate. Senator Mason Urged the appointment of a joint congressional committee to Investigate the sinking of the Maine. The house passed the bankruptcy bill reported hy the house committee on judiciary as a Substitute for the Nelson bill passed hy the senate at the extra session last summer. The bill Is known as the Henderson bill, and contains both voluntary and Involuntary features. It is considered less drastic than the measure passed hy the las house by a vote of Km to H7. Mr. Hall of Cook called up the Mediums telephone bill and offered an amendment to make the bill apply only to telephones in Cook county. The amendment was adoptpd. In the senate Senator Campbell offered a bill changing the ratio of percentage of school taxes in Cook county. The bill was advanced to second reading without reference. The house Feb. 17 concurred in the action of the senate in striking out the emergency clause in the bill making an appropriation to aid the attorney general in the defense of the inheritance tax cases In the Supreme Court of the United states.
