Normal School. The 20th Annual Marshall County Normal will open in the Ward school building at 2 p. m. July 3, 1605. We have arranged with Profs. Jacob Martin, of the Plymouth City Schools, and W. F. Ellis, Supt. of the Premen schools,to assist us. The matter of instruction will be under their supervision, though planned and dictated by myself. Eighty-eight per cent, of the schools in the county for the past year, were filled by Marshall County Xormal students, besides many other schools in adjoining counties and other towns. There were eighty-live graduates, the past year, from the County schools, the most of whom will be present. The Marshall County Normal is no longer an experiment, but the fact of having had instruction here recommends a teacher wherever he may go. We hope you can be with us on the first day and remain the entire term. Prof. Ellis is fresh from the State Normal and a student of Prof. Arnold P. Thompkins. He will give us extra work on State Normal discipline. The outlook is splendid for a large attendance. Many old teachers are expecting to be present. We guarantee perfect satisfaction. Anyone not prepared to pay in advance should so inform me at the opening of the school, or by letter. The full line of Common Pranches will be taught daily, and extra work given in advanced work when classes can be formed. A pleasant room for study will be prepared where books can be kept and lessons reviewed without annoyance. Students can take such work as they may feel the greatest need of. Inquiries regarding board, etc., can be directed to me or Mr. Jacob Martin, at Plymouth.. Tuition, sö.00 for term of seven weeks. Poard convenient and reasonable. Very truly yours, S. S. Pish, County Superintendent. Lightning Rod Sharpers. The Prookstown Peporter relates the following experience of the late Fred Warner with lightning rod swindlers, though it does not attribute his death to this trouble, as reported by the associated press: On the 15th of May, 1813, two lightning rod men struck up a bargain that if Warner would let them erect a certain nuuiber of feet of lightning rod on his barn as a sample, being the first in the neighborhood, it would only cost him 811, and in addition they would buy his team of horses for 6130 cash. This seemed a bargain and Fred signed a a contract to that effect, as he supposed, it being so read to him with the obligation to buy horses therein mentioned. They left with the understanding to return again and put up the rods and take the horses. On the 27th of May, two other men returned and put up the rods and when completed asked for a settlement. Tlieir bill in accordance with the contract was $227, which he refused to pay, but which was in exact accordance with the contract which they held with his name signed to as evidence. They claiming to know nothing about any outside talk if there was any. After a long parley the parties agreed to settle for 6125 which amount was embodied in a note and signed by Mr. Warner, due in eight months payable at the bank. The mysteries about the matter, and the fear that some additional claims would yet show up against him caused much anxiety and loss of sleep, until on the morning of June 21th he was sick and went out to work against the advice of Ids wife, the day being very hot, and fell dead in the cornfield about H o'clock. Ancient Advertisement. Latin inscriptions, advertisements of tradesmen, form an interesting class, says Macmillan's Magazine. Here is otie near Pome: "If you want inscriptions made, or have any need of marble work, you'll get it here." Another enterprising man at Pologna announces: "A bath in town style and every convenience." A similar notice meets us only eight miles from Pome, where, of course, most of the customers would be able to know whether they really had "town style" or not. A curious example comes from Lyons, which maybe paraphrased thus: "Here Mercury promises profit, Apollo safety, and Septumanus bed and breakfast. He who has been here before will be treated all the better a second time. Stranger settle on your lodging beforehand.'. A more independent tone is taken by another innkeeper, who doesn't hesitate to declare that Iiis houso is not intended for people of moderate means. "1 f you live in good style, here's the house for you; if in poor fashion, I'll put up with you, but 1 shall be ashamed of having you;' Perhaps there are a good many modern hotels conducted on this principle, but the proprietors are not, as a rule, quite so frank in expressing their sentiments. The Poby Pair Association has received its knock-out blow by the supreme court, which met in special session. The court in its decision sustains the anti-Poby racing bill, and the court sustains the intentions of the framers of the bill. The law says no race association can hold more than three race meetings of fifteen days each, the time being between April 13th and Oct. 15th, and that a-meeting can bo held every sixty days. Gov. Mathew, is to be congratulated upon the successful termination of his light.
