During the winter it has crept sluggishly through the Teins, gathering impurities from indoor tir, from fatty substances in the food, and from many other sources. The great blood-purifying medicine especially prepared to do this work is Hood's Sarsaparilla. It will give to the blood purity, richness and vitality, and these will bring health and vigor, strong nerves, a good appetite, refreshing sleep, and powers of endurance. Is It the One in Africa or That of Siberiu? "Wherc if? the world's bippest forest:" was tlie question a.sked in the forestry section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science the other day, and it led to a deal of discussion. One man thought it was the region of forest north of the !St. Lawrence Kiver in the t provinces of Ontario and Quebec, extending northward to Hudson lay and Labrador, and embracing a region 1,700 miles in length and l,0o, miles in breadth. But those who followed him with suggestions took all the wind cut of his sails. The discussion finally rested with the decision hanging liro between an immense forest in Central Africa, with a length north and south of 3,000 miles and a width known to be vast, but which could not be told exactly, and the pine, larch and cedar forest of Siberia. It appears that Sileria, from the plain of the Obi Kiver on the west to the valley of the Indighirka on the east, embracing the great plains, or river valleys of the Yenisei. Olenek, Lena, and Yaua Uivers, is one great timber belt, averaging more than I.i.hk) miles iu breadth from north to south, being fully 1,700 miles wide in the Yenisei district, and having a length from east to west of not less than 4,0ih versts, about .'Uioo miles. Unlike equatorial forests, the trees of the Siberian taigas aro mainly conifers, comprising pines of several varieties. Mrs and larches. In the Yenisei, Lena and olenek regions there are thousands of square miles where no human being has ever been. The long-stemmed conifers rise to a height of l."0 feet or more and stand so closely together that walking among them is dillicult. The dense, lofty tops excluded the pale arctic sunshine, and the straight, pale trunks, all looking exactly alike, so bewilder the eye in the obscurity that all sense of direction is lost. Even the most experienced trappers of sable dare not venture into the dense taisras without taking the precaution of blazing the trees constantly with hatchets as they walk forward. If lost there the hunter rarely linds his way out, but perishes from starvation or cold. The natives avoid the taigas, and hao a name for them which signifies "places where the mind Is lost." Are Findings Keepings?" The common practice of considering "finders keepers" tends to lower the standard of ethics. A correspondent of the Interior, anxious to keep his moral sense free from confusion, asks: "Will the tinder of an article ever be ethically entitled to be considered its owner?" The Interior answers: That reminds us of an Incident long ago lifty-live years ago. One Saturday evening a peddler of woodenware drove tip to the log house where the writer's father lived, with a wagon loaded with wares, and a set of tools for making them. He said he wished to go back to Pennsylvania oa business, and would like to leave his horse and wagon and goods in father's care till he came back. He went, and never returned nor was heard of again. Father had the horses sold under an order of court, as they would "eat their heads off," but kept the wagon and goods locked up In an old cabin for five years, then sold them and turned the proceeds, with that for the sale of the horses, over to the county court, where the nouey no doubt is lying yet. Another case: Father had a loan of five hundred dollars from an old farmer who lived about sixteen miles away, and I used to ride across in January every year to pay the interest. The old farmer died, and the old house was occupied by a tenant. In poking in a hole In the huge chimney-jambs to drive out a rat, the man pulled out a gold coin. Making a hook of a piece of iron, he raked away till he had several hundred dollars in the shining pieces. He took every cent nnd paid It over to the administrator of the estate, though no man would ever have known or even suspected his find. He did not known even the meaning of the word "ethics." COMPLETELY PARALYZED.
PHYSICIANS ARE ASTOUNDED BY A PECULIAR CASE. A. Yonngj Man Stricken with Landry't Paralysis and Yet Kecovcrs, (From th? Times, Philadelphia, To.) Stricken with Landry's Paralysis and yet cured. That means but little to the average layman, but it means a miracle to a physician. Such is the experience of O. L Dallimore, now a resident of Madison, N. J., and a rare experience it is. "Yes, it is true that I had Landry's Paralysis," said Mr. Hallimure to a reporter, "or else the most celebrated physicians of Indon were mistaken. "It was on tlie 15th of March, this year," he continued, "when 1 was in New York City, that I first felt the syrnj-. toins of my trouble. I experienced difficulty in going up stairs, my leps failing to support inc. I consulted a physician, who informed me that I had every symptom of Locomotor Ataxia, but as the case developed he pronounced it a ease of Landry's Paralysis, and knowing the nature of the disease advised me to start for my home and friends. I pave up my work, and on April 1st started for London, Out. A well-known physician was consulted, but I prew rapidly worse, and on Saturday, April 7th, several eminent physicians held a consultation on my case and informed me that I was at death's door;, having but three to six days to live, still I lingered on. by this time completely paralyzed, n y hands and fivt being dead. 1 could hardly whisper my wants and could only swallow liquids. Oh, the miscry of those moments are beyond all description and death would really have been n welcome visitor. "Now comes the part that has astounded the physicians. Rev. Mr. Clondy, a clergyman who visited me in my last hours, as he supposed, told me of the marvelous cures of paralysis that had been performe 1 by Dr. Williams' Pink Pills for Pi; People. I started to take the pills abo.it April '2S, and a week after that felt an improvement in my condition. There was a warm, tingling sensation in the limits that had been entirely dead, and I sooji began to move my feet and hands, the improvement continued until May 28, when I wns taken out of bod for a drive and drove the horse myself. 15y the bepinninp of July I was aide to walk upstairs alone and paid a visit to Niagara. "Slowly but surely I pained my old health end strength, leaving Ontario for New York on Oct. 11, and beginning my work again on Oct. ", 1S'J4; cured of Lindry's Paralysis in eight months." St. John and ttie Tame Partridge. There is a legend that St John kept :i tame partridge as a pet. The story poos that while St. John was feeding and playing with the partridge one day, a passing huntsman expressed surprise at finding so old and venerable a man thus occupied. The apostle inquired if tin; huntsman always kept his bow bent "lly no means," was the reply; "it would become useless if I did so." Consumption kills more people than rifle balls, it is more deadly than anv of the much dreaded epidemics. It is a stealthy, gradual, slow disease. It penetrates me wnoie body.
