Discharging a watery fluid, and the burning and Itching would dr.ve her nearly wild. Unless we incased her little hands she would tear patches of skin from her face and hand3. We tried many doctors and many remedies, and at last gave the case up as hopeless. But our daughter Cora tried Hood's Sarsaparilla, to cure a scrofulous lump near the left breast which caus?d her much pain, and after taking 4 bottles it disappeared. Blanche, who is now eleven, had spent seven years of suffer--ing, to I concluded to pive her Hood's Sarsaparllla. SLc took 5 bottles, and her face is smooth and soft as a baby's, the color of a rose petal. Her hands are soft and white, where four months ago they wera blue and red and calloused nearly like leather. I cannot express my gratitude by pen or mouth. Public Eye To-Day Dress ol Montenegrin Women. The tlrcss of tlic women throughout Montenegro varies but slightly, and as no distinction of rank exists the only difference between the garments of tho rich and the poorer classes consists in the suiK'rior fineness of the 'materials used, or in the quantity or quality of the ornaments. Their tlivss i-3 simply a long flowing white camicia, girdled by a black sash. Mack and white are the national colors of tho Montenegrins. Someof the women wear a heavy leathern girdle set with three or four rows of large carnelian stones, soaietimes fastened in front by a massive antique silver clasp. A sinq.io piece of black cloth is an addition worn on the head by the oilier matrons. Montenegro is everywhere mountainous. As a precaution against invasion there are no roads, and carts are unknown. The goods of the country are carried to Cataro by the women, aided occasionally by mules. They are knit together in clans and families, and have many feuds among themselves. The men are armed even when engaged in agricultural operations. It is harder to blow out a caudle with a cotton than with a tlax wick, because tho porous cotton absorbs so much more of the tallow. TEXT OF HIS LETTER TO THE CHICAGO COMMITTEE.

The President Very Plainly Defines Ilia Position on the Silver Question Is Unquestionably in Favor of Sound Money." Following is the text of President Cleveland's reply to the invitation of Chicago business men to address a meeting to be held there ratifying the President's attitude on the money question: Executive Mansion. Washington. D. C To Messrs. Win. T. I'.aker. Ueorge V. Smith. John A. Koche, T. W. Harvey. I 'avid Kelly, and Henrv S. Kohl is: t;entliuen I am much crat'tfted bv the exceedingly kind and eouipllmentarv Invitation you have tendered me on behalf of luany citizens of Chicago to be their guest at a gathering ia the interest of sound money aud wholesome financial doctrine. My attachment to this cause Is so great and I know so well the hospitr.llty and klndnes.i of the people of Chicago that my personal Inclination U strongly In favor of accepting vour llatterlng Invitation, but rny Judgment and inv estimate of the properties of my official place oblige me to forego the enjoyment of participating in the occasion you contemplate. I hope, however, the event will mark the beginning of an earnest and aggressive effort to disseminate among the people safe and prudent linanclal Ideas. Nothing more Important can engage the attention of patriotic citizens, because nothing is so vital to the welfare of otn fellow countrymen and to the strength, prosperity and honor of our nation. The situation confontlng us demands that those who appreciate the Importance of this subject, and those who ought to be the lirst to seo impending danger, shouh! no longer remain Indifferent or overconfident. Sound-Money Sentiment. If the Round-money sentiment abroad In the land is to save us from mischief and disaster It must be crvstallied and combined and made Immedlatelv active. It is dangerous to overlook the fact that a large number of our people, with scant opportunity, thus far, to examine the quest ion In nil Its aspects, have nevertheless been Ingeniously pressed with specious suggestions, which in time of misfortune and depression rind willing listeners prepared to give credence to any scheme which b; plausibly presented as a reined r for their unfortunate condition. What Is how needed more than anything else i.i a plain und simple presentation of the argument In favor of sound money. In other words. It Is a time for the American people to reason together as members of a great nation, which can promise them a continuance of protection and safety only so long as its solvency Is unsuspected and honor unsullied and the soundness of its money unquestioned. These tilings arc ill-changed for the Illusions of a debased currency and groundless hope of advantages to be gaind by n disregard of our financial credit and commercial standing among the nations of the world. If our people were Isolated from all others, and if tne question of our currency could bo tea teil without regard to our relations to other countries. Its character would be a matter of comparatively little Importance. If the American people were only concerned In the maintenance of their precious life among themselves they might return to the old days of barter, and in this primitive manner acquire from each other the materials to supply the wants of their existence. Itut If American civilization is satistied with this It would abjectly fail In Its high and noble mission. Temptation of the Farmer. In these restless days the fanner Is tempted by the assurance" that, though our currency may bo debased, redundant and uncertain, such a situation will Improve the price of Lis products. Let us remind Mm that ho must buy as well as sell; that his dreams of plenty are shaded by the certainty that If the price of the things he has to sell Is notninallv enhanced, the cost of the thing i ho must huy will not remain stationary; that th' best prices which cheap money proclaims are unsubstantial and elusive, and that even If they were real and palpable, he must necessarly be left far benlnd In tho race for their enjoyment. It ought not to be difficult to convince the wage earner that If there were benefits arising from a degenerated currency, they would reach him least of all and last of all. In an unhealthy stimulation of prices an Increase:! cost of (ill the needs of his home must be long bis portion, while he is at the same time vexed with vanishing visions of increased wagen and an easier lot. The pages of history and experience are full of this lesson. An Insidious attempt is made to create n prejudice .".gainst the advocates of a safe and sound currency by the Insinuation, more or les:: directly made, that they belong to financial and business classes and are therefore not only out of sympathy with the common peoplo'of the land but for selfish and wicked purposes are willing to sacrifice the Interests of those outside their circle. I believe that capital and wealth through combinations and other moans, sometimes gain an undue advantage; and it must be conceded that the maintenance of a sound currency may, in a sense, be Invested with a greater or less Importance to individuals according to their condition an 1 circumstances. It is, however, only a difference in degree, since it is utterly impossible that any one In our broad land, rich or poor, whatever may be his occupation, whether dwelling in a centir of finance and commerce or In a remote corner of our domain, can be really benefited by a financial scheme, not alike beneficial to nil our people, or that any one should be excluded from a common and universal interest in the safe character and value of the currency of the country. All in Ilii!incs3. In our relation to this question, we are all In business, for we all buy and sell: so we all have to do with linanclal operation, for we nil earn money and spend it. We can not escane our interdependence. Merchants and dealers are in every neighborhood, and Mich has its shops am) manufactories. Wherever the wants of man exist, business and finance, In some degree, are found, related In one direction to those whose wants they supply and in another to the more extensive business and finance to which tlier are tributary. A Uucluation In prices at tlitseaboard Is known the same day r hour in the remotest hamlet. The discredit or depreciation in tinanci.il centers of any form of monev in the hands of the people is a signal of immediate loss everywhere. If reckless discontent and wild experiment should sweep our currency from Its safe support, the most defenseless of all who suffer In Hint time of distress and national discredit will be the poor, as they reckon their loss In tlwir scanty support, and the laborer find workingman lis be sees the monev he has received for his toil shrink and sh'rivel In Iiis hand when he tenders it for the necessaries to supply his humble home. IHsguise It as we may. the line of battle Is drawn between the forces of safe currency and those of silver monometallism. 1 wiil not believe that if our people are afforded an Intelligent opportunity for sober second thought they will sanction schemes that, however cloaked, mean disaster and confusion, nor that they will consent bv undermining the foundation of a safe enrrenev to endanger the beneficent character and purposes of their government. Yours verv truly, ;imvi:i: Cleveland. Acceptlnn; Defeat. Doubtless a defer. led candidate for nn olliee inijjht be benefited by learning the lesson of this incident- but probably he would not heed it. It is saiil that Herr Steinilz, the veteran ehess-phiyer, and for many years champion of the world, seeing defeat was inevitable in the concluding- same of bis match with Kmmanuol I.asker, rose abruptly and shouted aloud, "hong; live tho new champion!' The Women. In Dutch (Juiana the women carry upon their persons all the family savings in the shape of heavy bracelets, anklets, necklaces, and even crowns of sohl and silver. They wear weighty earrings, and huso rins-S six or oisbt inches in diameter, dansie from their noses. Culture, bavins licked the whole world into shape, has at last attacked the devil himself. Itut the devil will etand u good deal of licking.

The fear of pain, and the dangers of parturition fill many a woman's breast with dismay. There is no reason why childbirth should be fraught with danger and distress. It is a naturr.1 function, and should ba performed in a natural way without undue suffering. Nature never intended that women should be tortured in this way. Taken during gestation Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription robs childbirth of its dangers to both mother and child, by preparing the system for delivery, thereby shortening labor, lessening pain and abbreviating the period of continemcnt.
