Destructive I'iro. On Sunday night lat, between eleven and twelve o'clock, the liverv taMe of Mr. S. Tibbits of thia place, was discovered to be on fire, and the flames had made euch rapid progress, that it was impossible to arrest them, until the entire establishment with its contents, except two or three buggies, which were run out of the sued part of the barn ou the opposite side from where the fire was raging. Five horses all that were in the stables at the time were burned every effort to rescue them proving unavailing. It was truly shocking to hear their groan3 and yells whilst kicking and boating themselves against their burning stalls, uutil they were burned to death. Two of Mr. T-'s fin?st buggies and five or six sleighs and cutters, harness, grain, hay fcc, were all consumed. It was with much difficulty that the residenco of Dr. Brelsford, situated about 25 feet from the east side of the stable, was saved. Cut by the indomitable perseverance of the Hook & Ladder company, and it beinj a very still night, it and doubtless many other buildings in the neighborhood were saved. Tne fire was unquestionably the work of an incendiary, as it first broke out on the wet side of the stable where it was impossible to have occurred by accident. Railroad Accident. This morning between two and three o'clock, the cast bound freight train on the Pittsburgh, Ft. Wayne and Chicago Railroad, in attempting to switch off, for the west-bound freight to pass, backed off the track opposite Work k Moore's lime house, totally demolishing it, and slightly crippling one or two of the Cars. The lime is left exposed and the frame of the building is scattered in everv direction. Accident frobablt fatal. On Friday last while an Irishman in the employ of the Cincinnati, Peru and Chicago Railroad, was engaged in coupling cars at the Depot at this place, be was crushed between two of them, gathering him about the waist. He was taken to Laportc, and it was strp. posed when he left here tint he could not recover. The Laporte Daily Union of Saturday says hr was then lying in a critical condition, though, likely to recover. Wheat Market. Buyers have gathered in quitt h quantity of this article for shipment, though there are heavy lots yet in the hands of producers who are holding back for better prices. Ihey would doubtless sell at one dollar, but as long as prices range below that figure the market w ill be slimlv attended. Larceny. All old man in passing the rcridence of Mr Geo. Taylor about half a mile west of this place on Saturday last, called in and told Airs. T. tli.it he was cut of money but wanted something to eat, which she gave him, and on taking his leave of the hot;e, aal n one being in the room at the tiine, he appropriated to his own especial use, .Mr. Taylor's watch. He subsequently offered the watch for sale in thi place, but suspicions seemed to rest upon Lim, and he failed to dispose of it, and before Mr. Taylor had missed hia watch, his cuatomrr had left (own. Sh.ee the recent fire our attention has been called to the 2"2d fcc. of "an act for the incorporation of towns defining; their poxers, kc-, on page 4 3'2, 1st vol, of th revised Statute of lt'ö, in which it appears that the board of Trustseü shall have the power in the organization of Fire Companies and Hook k Lid lor Copanie., "to make owner? of buildings provide Ullorj andGrc buckets which are hereby declared to be appurtenances to the real estate and exempt from execution, seizure and 8ale." Thcro arc other powers conferred urK)n such board in the same section, that might interest a number of our reader", and it ttiiy pay them to look to the statute in time, as the board should undoubtedly excrciie its powers thuj conferred for the protection of property from fire; for it does really fcm that it iathe fate ol Plymouth tu be burned nearly as fast as it is built up. iCtTOur loaders can have a little story
