The Way to Bo It. Messrs. Editor: Six years ago, an honest, hard-working 'man, went from the vieimtv of Norwich Conn, to the far we.-t. He had in hU pocket A capital of 400, which he had carefully husbanded again-t a raining day". On ai riving 1 Iiis place of destination he purchased a snug little farm which he planted with peach trees. His- neighbors, no doubt, thought him foolish and visionary, but he kept his own counsel. His second crop of peaches yielded sufficient-, to pay for hi-; land and leave him a gain of 400 bnt the last, year his peach crop yielded him a profit of thousands. In view of these facts, I would say to all, wake. up, look around, and see where you can set fruit-trees. There is, perhaps, many a spot on your farm nearly worthless, it being so rocky that it is almost impossible to plow it, and only producing brakes, briers and noxious weeds. I would bv all means ad
vise you to set out fruit-trees, es - pecially the apple tree. Plant a tew eviy year, and in i, short time j those barren place would be beau-i tifully adorned by nature's va-i rigated tint, and soon they will be-J come very productive, and from these rocky spots you will draw interest yearly and your children and grand-children will rise up rtau uuuuj uu, iui juu mu i;mc

Gazette: In a latt? isne of your excellent pa run is an ai tide on wheat turnim' to Cheat, which although appeals somewhat feasible and might be pretty satisfactory to those who have not been close and critical observers yet to my mind it is fallacious. That cheat will totv I have no doubt for I tried it, and found it would grow about rs well as most other grain, but tL ut wheat ch mrx s to cheat I hire very little, if any doubt. I will state some of my reasons for btiitvii: a? I c. In the iir-t plies it tikes eh that come? from the seed about u loner to m it tires a it does wheat conequHiir! v in c i any lent to the vlu-;U tho cliat acci-caii-not come out mature iri i tVr.' weekIs ou; lot a brush or n nnd ir.uttlat'j wneat 01 tre,1 fall on t the catflu or other ?tiLk cat it oiY after it i lkj uiUL uji aim joint, iiuu then observe whether in those very plaees there is not more cheat than cbwhere. If there is not I am in error if there all doubt. If not, why more cheat there than any where else? If it is in the seed alone why is it that we may sometimes sow very pure seed and have very pure wheat aud sometimes we may sow equally pure seed on the same ground and have a great deal of cheat, prevailing wheat having the moit difficulty to encounter. Some may say the cheat was in the ground. If that is a good argument there? would be cheat at all limes and under rd circumstances it would be nearly the same; but we find the same ground sometimes producing cheat in great abundance at other time? very little; some season there will be twentv times a3 much cheat a3 there will be in other seasons. I cannot till why this is so unless the weat changes; at least the argument is vastly in favor of the latter. The farmers were as careful to sow clean wheat last fall as usual and yet there is much more cheat this harvest than I have known for years. At the last sossion nf Oliio lcgijliture it was made tbe duty or the township assessors to return the number of sheep and the owner of each lot, and the number killed by dogs within the year. By the Newark Advocate we observed that the assessors in Licking county performed their duty according to the act of Assembly, and the aggregate return of sheep killed by dogs in that county with in the past year, was little short of thirteen hundred. The whole number of sheep in the county i put down p.l ir,9,G9'). The harvest has commenced in Tippecanoe County, and the Lafayette Courier says the crop Tvas never better, and so pay all the papers in the South part of tin-State.
