nan wist. from east, mail 12:05 pm . MAIL U:itjam xxri 10:45 dm Exre f:lo am 3:0 i a m mT 10:00 pm . fr r ITew Year. TiU i the last paper of 1C58 With it ; tre send to all our patrons and frwnds our best wishes for a prosperous and happy 1859! Our Farmer friends who have -welcomed the Democrat to their homes ; during the year which is just going out, we hope have been pleased and interested in the perusal of its columns, and hoping that they will continue, the coming year, to patronize it, therefore, 'a happy New Yar to them-. To the Merchants, and business men generally, who have patronized U3 so liberally in the way of advertising and job work the present yar, we wish unbounded success in the year to come, and hoping tint they will continue to extend to us the s mh liberal patronage, through the next Tfnr. 'a happy New Year to them. To the Ladies who hare sent us so many ir- t presents during the pasj year, and who have expressed themselves so highly pleased with the Demoorat, 'a glorious New Year to t?ie.n. To our patrons, who have ta!:eii our paper from the first llumbor up to tho present writing, without paying tho printer, to them we say a well 'a prosperous New Year them. To everybody under the sun, we wish 'a happy New Year.' Those Turkies. We were agreeably surprised last Tuasday evening, on opening our Post Office box, to find two large, fat Turkies! We learned from a gentleman at our elbaw that they were placed there br our friend of the Book Store, G. W. R. Combs. We pronounced a printer's benediction on the Turkies, and wished a long life of prosperity and happiness to the liberal doner. Sxlxct School. By reference to our advertising columns it will be seen that AJark Ccmmixgs, Esq., proposes to open a Select School, in the room formerly occupied by Dr Lemon a3 a Drug Store. Mr. C. is a gentleman in every sense of the word, and is in every way competent to teach the branches advertised We hopo our citizens will avail themselves of this epportunity to send their children to a geod School. Carrier s Address. Our carrier boy. Master John Palmer, will pay his respects to our town subscribers next Saturday morning. Ha has left the Democrat at your doors every Thursday morning during the past year, and as he has a good Address, h aks one and all to patronize him liberally. All he receives for carrying the papers to you is what you give him, that is his own, and not ours as many may imagine. jT3r"Mattingly has been sick far'a week or tiro ever since he wroto A fkunk by anyother name would smell a? sweet!' He is recovering, we believe. JßrChristnm passed ofF very quietly in Plymouth. The hoop-pole militia paraded th principle streets, making all the fun we seen during tho day. The dance at the Edwards Ilouso, in the evening, although small for euch an occasion, wa3 composed of as respectable a company as ever assemble for the purpose, and from all we could eeo they enjoyed themselves hugely. 'Of all that did chance, 'twere a long tale to tell Of the dancers and dresses and who was the belle; But each was so happy and all were so fair, That night stole away and dawn catight them there! Jt-Read A. Bovd's Adve rtisemcnt in to-day's paper. Those in want of tables, stands, chairs, bureaus, Ledsleads, softs, lounges, book cases, desks, cupboard etc, will undoubtedly save money by making their purchases of Uncle Boyd, as I113 fur niture 13 superior to that kept by any other establishment in town. INotxs. Ve hava over two hundred dollars in notes, for Bubscription to the Democrat, and most of them have been due over two months. In taking these notss, those who gave them set the.'r own time to pay them in, and now that tli3 time has long (to us) since xpired, we think it due to us that they should bo paid. We shall ba obli2ed to sue for tho money if mej are not paU pretty soon, as there aro .1 , .
