ILrThe following extract from an article in the Peru i?ru6can,should have appeared some weeks ago, but the crowded state of our columns has prevented its appearance until now. The article from which this is taken, is well written, and takes a correct view of the subject. Alter endorsing the position we took in a former article in relation to the publication of the laws, the editor siys: "Is it riprht to hold the masses civilly and criminally responsible for disobedience to laws which t to them have been a sealed book? Consider, a moment, the system of publishing the laws now in vogue. The Legislature passes an act, and declares it shall take effect from and after its publication in cither the State Sentinel or the State Journal, and tho filing of a certified copy in the office of the Clerk of the county. Now then there is not one hundredth inhabitant of the State who bv such a publication ice?, hears or knows anything of the not be "is bound to know," and punished for disobeying. In this ther is palpable injustice and wrong. But there are other reasons

Louisville, Kansas, Xov 30. Editor Sentiueb Permit me through your paper, to give the public toae information in regard to the Kansas Gold Mines. Gold does not exist at Pike's Peak, as has been represented by many of our public journals. The mining district lies ahout seventv miles north eat of Pike Peak, on Cherry mid Long's Cret-k, and also on the valley of the" South Platte. Mr William G Russell of Georgia, left our, Countv with a small companv of men in Mav last . . .i . ri.i" : i - .1." .... l topro.pect these mines. They arrived in the vallev of the Platte about the 25th of June, and commenced prospecting Cherry Creek, which they f"""d would pay from four to ten dollars per day to the man. Thinking to find richer diggings, they ! left Cherrv Creek and went to prospecting Iong's Creek w hich they found would pa v about the same ai cuerry creeK. i ney men prospecteu among the Blaek Hills, and al.-o among the head waters of the South Platte. Th-y found gold at all places prospected. On Cherry creek, four of ir Russell's party took out and washed, in day, forty-seven dollars and sixty cents; at another place Mr R. w ashed out of one pan full of dirt, tin ee dollars and twenty cents. Mr R states that they prospected one thousand acres of land which will yield from three to nine dollars per day to the man, if worked w ith prpcr instruments. The correspondent also states that there arc fine farming lands in the valleys of the Platte as good as any ol the farming lands in Kansas. He also Ftates that game exi-fsiu great abundance; ''Mr l'!k antclopt-, deer, mountain slu-qi and also j w:j i-ousj:ir, or -.iuei lean l Igor. up siaics i"ai provisions are very scarce. There were at the mines h. 1,0 left", Oct 6ih, about fi 0 men. Mr Russell advises all connmies can iuiiow as Jar up as jhe crossing of the Arkan sas river; from thence they follow up tho Arkansas to H-nt's Fort, which U some three hundred and fifty miles across to the waters of the Sivith Platte. Thousands of Indian" were cen in the valley of the Arkansas, hut they ali seined friendly and seldom visited them at their campgronnds unless it was to beg for tobacco. The writer, Mr John L Taylor, says he has been acquainted with Mr liu-scll for '.he last three years And knowshim to b a man of truth and veracity. Daily Paper in La Porte.
