The best men have fallen through the suggestion of another. How careful you should le while in the freshness of your days, leasts blight fell on you forever. If invited to places of resort where it is difficult to d jcid 3, take the safe course; stay away and save your reputation. This is a jewel of inestimable value, too precious to be put in jeopardy. No man ever regrets that he kept aloof from temptation, and at the close of life he expresses a joy that he was paved from the path of shame by giving ft decided negative when the voice of pleasure beckoned on. ftu decided, and you to saved. The Assembly of the Ic.k1. Dr. Reed, a traveler through the highlands of Peru, h said to hare found Hiely, in the d?serls of Ale jam 1, the dried remains of an assemblage of human brings, some five or six hundred in numbar, men, vromea and children, seated in a semicircle .13 when alive, staring into tho burning wast? before them. They had not been burned; life h.i.l not departed before they thus sat aronnd; but hope was gone; the Spanish invaders were at hand, and no hope being left they had come hither to die. They still sat immoveable In the dreary desert, dried like mummies by the effect of the hot air; and still kept their position, sitting up as in solemn council, while oer them silerce broods everlasting. $3T Lost weal.h may be restored by industry: the wreck of health regained by temperance: forgotten knowledge restored by study: alienated friendships smothered into forgetfulness: every forfeited reputation won by penitence and virtue. But who ever looted 'upon his slighted years: stamped them with wisdom, or effaced from hcatcn's record the fearful blot of wasted time. Ericson, after a 25 years struggle, h.i3 succeeded in bringing his hot air engine into practical use. "Robert Dale Owen, U. S. Minister to Naples, who has heretofore entertained heterodox views of Christianity, writes to his friends in thi3 country that he ha3 become converted to the Christian faith. Bashful Men. We never saw a genuine bashful man who was not the soul of honor. Though they may blush and stammer, unable to throw forth with ease the thots1 that they would expres?, yet commend them to us for friends. Vie are astonished that such men are not appreciated, that ladies with really good hearts and cultivated intellects, reward the gallant Sir Mustachio Brainless with smiles and attention, because he can fold a shawl gracefully and bandy compliments with Parasian elegance, while they will not condescend to look upon worthier men who feel for them a reverence so great that every mute glance is worshiped. Ladies, a word in vour ear. 7 mt Have you lovers and would you possess a worthy husband? Choose him whose delicacy of deportment and sense of your worth, lead him to stand alooi while others crowd around you. If he blushes or stammers at your approach, consider them as so many sums of hi3 ex alted opinion of your sex. If he is j retiring and modest, let not aj thousand, tortunes weign nun clown 4n the balance, for depend upon it, th him your life would be hap--pier withxverty than with many others surrounded with the splendor of palace?. .
TiihImpokta:nce op Good Reading. What is more value to a person in the line of education, than to be a good reader, and oil the other hand, what 13 more disgusting an annoying, than to hear a person making ah attempt at reading a piece, while at the same time he is compelled every few momenta to patlse an spell a word before he can proceed with the sentence. And again, it is seldom the case that persons pause where they should, while they often pause where they should not. We should all try to improve ourselves in reading, so' that if called upon at any time to read for others, we wouhl be prepared without any hesitation or defalcation to do so. We think reading is of vast importance. It influences the mind an cultivates the intellect. We do not mean to say; that you should read books that will be of no value to you.
No, never read novels but read some good moral, interesting, and instructive book, that will be of i use and benefit to you in davs to come, instead of pouring over some frasuy nonsensical novel, or witch story, that will be of no use to you or any one else. But as a general tiling, we are all inclined more or i;f nA ,..lr i;fll.oiM sions, at the price of virtue. But nevertheless such reading is wrong, and I pray you shun it, for Todd says the food on which swan feeds and which makes it so beautiful; strong and long lived, grows deep in the clear running nroox, anti lit works hard to wrench it from its moorings among the stones in the w L5ttom. 0 The Belly Movements in Xic a k ag ita. Notwithstanding all this, the President is not one to leave matters to chance, and the Governments of Central America are supposed to require the watchful care of Uncle Sam. "With this and other odjects in view, it is stated that the President has determined to send an armed force immediately to San Juan del Xorte, and that our rights to a free passage across the Isthmus will notonly be re-asserted but maintained against the world. We hope these reports are true that the halt-savage Governments of Nicaragua Costa Pica, etc., are wholly incapable of self-government and while they are anxious and seemingly determined to place themselves under European tutelage. It is probably with an eve to the?e matters that an armed force is to dispatch to San Juan. We will see the effect it will have on the Belly movement. Kind words are looked upon like the jewels upon the breast, never to be forgotten and per haps to check by their memory a Ions: sad lift while words of cru elty or of carelessness, are like swords in the bosom, wounding and leaving scars which willbe borne to the grave by their victim. Do you think there is any braised heart which bears the mark of such a wound from you? If there is a living one whom you have wounded, hasten to heal it for life is short to-morrow may be too late. The Boston Traveler says that Mr. Buns, Secretary of the Society for Ameliorating the condition of the Jews, was at the Business men's prayer meeting the other day, in that citv, and gave an ac count of his conversion to Christianity. It reports him as having said that he had recently received a letter from England, giving an account ot the meeting ot the Ilabbie3 in that country to discuss the question whether Christ was the true Messiah, and that they had agreed if the Messiah did not come in fifteen years, to accept Christ as the Messiah. His disca?c was Consumption, of which nearly all his rela tives had died. The circumstances which led to his recovery were as follows: His younger brother was in the habit of reading to him from books about the house to while away his weary hours. One day he read to him from an old book published in Loudon about the middle of the seventeenth century, of what was styled "A sympel and certain remmecdee for diseases of yc Lungs." Not wholly without hope, and unwilling to leave anything untried which gave promise of relief, the sick "and dying man had the prescribed remedies prepared and commenced its use. The result was favorable. In two months he was able to walk about the premises without difficulty, and in seven months from the time that he commenced its use he was entirely well, and has not been confined a day since. Grateful twaidsan all-wise providence for his restoration, l e prescribed it for all in his vicinity who were aflictcd with diseases of the lungs and general debility, and in every case it ha3 proved effective. Thoroughly satisfied that it is the only safe and certain cure for Consumption, and wishing to do his fellow beings who are Fuffering, as much good as possible, he has concluded to send the recipe, with full instructions for putting up and Uäing the medicine, free to all who may order it. In order to defray the expenses of advertising, letterwriting, postage kc, he requires each applicant for the Recipe to enclose 10 cents and direct to M. minimi ii MS iiiiflfi l miJiiMR ?r...;..a i u 4 FTER YEARS f periment, Dr. Roback, the eminent Swedish Pin eician. succeeded in produdinr a medicine from twenty-three different species of mountain herbs of his native land, wnicn acts directly on tne causes of disease in the blood, and by restoring the cor rupted fountain of life, to a condition of health anl purity, expels disease from the system, wherever it may be located, or whatever may be its character. Indigestion, nervous complaints, epileptic and oth er fits, coughs, consumption in its early stages, ?orc throat, bronchitis, fever and ague, asthma, low spirits, sexual incapacity, feminine weakness, pricking of the skin, symptomatic of paralysis, rheumatism, neuralgia, tumor, cancer, diabetes, lassitude and debility, diarrhea, and all other disorders of the organs of respiration, the liver, the kidneys, the stomach, the nerves, or the muscular fibre, are unerringly cured by this preparation. It is to the materies morbi or seeds of disease what an alkali is to an acid: it neutralizes them with absolute cer tainty, while at the same time it regulates the se cretions, rcmovc-3 obstruciions from the bowels, cre ates appetite, renews bodily vigor, and regenerates every animal function. Such is the nature, rucb are the effects of Dr. Roback 's famous Scandinavian Blood Pnrifier, which, if taken in conjunction with his Scandinavian Blood Pills, will not only ob literate the most painful disease, but prevent their recurrence, and lengthen life beyond the ordinary span. In the "Scandinavian Blood Pills," Dr. Roback presents the result of twenty years of experience, hard study and experiment a3 to what a perfect pill should be. No one can doubt their superiorly af ter one single trial. Price of the Scandinavian Blood Turificr, $1 per bolt!, or $5 per half-dozen; Scandinavian Blood Pills, 25 cents per box, or five for SI. Roback: I have received so much benefit from your Scandinavian Blood Purifier r.nd Blood Pills, that I have thought it my duty, and it is no less my inclination, to give you a plain statement of my" case. 1 was for years afU cted with that bane of all comfort and cfiiciency in business, dyspepsia. To recapitulate all the so-clled remedies which I Iutc used to rid my.-elf oi" this disease, would indeed make a melancholy catalogue. 1 also consulted with the best physicians I could hear of. I was induced to try your remedies through the persuasion? of a friend, and after using them a few days was greatly benefitted, and in a short time, less than a month, 1 was entirely and permanently cured. I was also afflicted with the most violeiit nervous headache, wnich I suppose was produced by my disordered stomach, for when my dyspepsia left mc, my headache left with it. I now feci better in every re?pect than I have for ten rears. Very t.nlly youw, JOHN S DEMUTH. Cincinnati, Friday, Sept. 4, 1857. Dk. Roback Dear Sir: Hating been afflicted with neuralgia or rheumatism for the past vear and -a half, and having seen your medicine, called the Scandinavian Bio-jd Purifier, highly recommended by gentlemen with whom I am acquainted, I was induced to try it, but not before I had used various ether medicines. After using two bottles, I felt its effects very sensibly, and upon using two more, I found myself perfectly cured. You will allow mc, therefore, to cor.jratulate vou upon making a dis covery in medicine which is proving itself to be a worker of such wonders in the diseases of the hu man tu.mil v. GEORGE S. Roback Dear Sir: Ilaving been troubled for several years with extreme debilitv 0 and weakness, so much so that I was unable to attend to my ordinary business at times, and having heard of the wonderful cures that vour Scandinavian Blood Purifier and Tills were effecting, I was induced by a friend to try them. I have Lecn using the Purifier for the lat twelve months, and find the medicine fully equal to its recommendations. So valuable is its use to me that I cannot now dispense with the use of it at my advrnced age of life seventy-seven years.
