The Company of Heaven. It i3 pleasant amid the jars and discords of thisjower world to meet and minglo with tho great and good and noble spirits that aro to be found among us, and to refresh tho weary, world-worn mind by association -with the pure and holy harted; after the buisy cares and petty trails of this workday world are over, to sit quietly down by the fire side, or uraong the two or three
who hare met toirether, and converse of that home to which closing day is bringing us nearar, and towards which our united hearts and hopes are tending. And if the communion of saints an earth 13 so sweet, what must it be to mingle in the rand assemblag above; Heaven has been gathering to itself through coutlesa ages whatever is congenial to its nature, and enriching itself with the spoils of earth. Whatever we look upon as holy and excellent, elevated and worthy to be loved in the character of man, is found gathered and still gathering in that multitude which no man can number in the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. From every century, every generation, out of every people, and nation, and kindred, and tongue, 6ince the world passed Anwnrd. tioniririsinf? all that is best, and noblest, and brightest in man, all that is true, all that makes earth safe and pleasant to dwell in, and joining to that Church of the first-born, which is written in Heaven, and to the spirits of just men made perfect. There aro those whom we have known and loved. The hoary head walking us for so many years in the ways of wisdom, the soldier of the cross, who had learnt to live not unto himsele, but unto Him who died the gentle, pure harted, loving ones the tender infant all taking their places in the ranks of those who are "without fault," before tho throne. Once safe within those portals, how glorious their communion, how pure their intercourse. Nothing but holiness, fnd happiness, and lore bind together the fimily of heaven. Is this the companionship in which we trust to spend our eternal years? What manner of persons ought w then tobe in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for, and hastening unto the day when we to shall join in that multitude, and unite with them in the ever new song of praise to Him who hath covered us with righteousness, and made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance ol the saints in light. Spirit of Times. A Fine Thought. There ia some poetry yet left in the world. At thfr last Tompkins Square, demonstration of unemployed workmen of the City of New York, one of the speakers is reported to have said: 'Let us bear in mind the Temple of Minerva. When the Athenians built that magnificent structure, a statue was wanted to place upon its top. A poor mechanic was induced by his friends to compete for the prize with a favorite and wealthy sculptor of noble birth. The day for raising the etatue came that of the patrician was un veiled, and raptures of applause greeted the revelation. But it whs in truin so small that as it ascended, its beauty disappeared, and when it reached the top it seemed but a shapeless mass. The statua of the poor mechanic was next unreiled. It seemed huge and uncouth, and resembled nothing divine or human. But as it ascended its apparent deformities disappeared, it grew more and more comely, and finally when it reached the top seemed animate with dirine beauty and life. The poor mechanic won the laurel, and wa borne off amid the shouts of tho multitude. Let us, I say, bear this in mind it among us there are men who appear rough and uncouth, it is because we have not lifted them to that proud position they are so fitted to honor: it is because we have left them in obscurity to elevate the pandering and unscrupulous, who or.iy try to deceive IIS. Good Joke on a Widower. A waggish correspondent tells the following, and vouches for its truth. It 13 the best joke we have heard lately: "It appears that a widower in this town, of a somewhat trallant disposition, had been accustomed to visit thfl residence of the : -widow wh.ither to see the amiable widow herself, or her daughters, our in for man t did not know. One evening he found tho family party bard at work on 6oma garmenta of cloth. The girls were cewincr, and the wjdow waa pressing the gcams. . The widower hung up his hat, as usual, and took his seat by the fire; just at that moment it happened that the widow had done with the pressing iron, (vulgo, a etailor's goose.) She 6et it down on the hearth and called to her negro man in aloud voice'Jate, come and take out this goose The widower started up with astonishment not knowing what to make of this abrupt - m J crder. "Jake, do you near me.'" again ex claimed the widow. "I beg your pardon . JXrs. said the widower, with visible notation, "but prat don't call Jake. J you wish me to leave your house, I will go at once, and without the interference ot Ber vanta." Tho ladies roared with laughter, and i ' took some moments to explain to the cha . grined widower his mistake. .He has no been known to visit the widow since that memorable evening. ROB1CIDS DISEASE VANQUISHED Dr. Eoback's Scandinavian Bemedies. VQ D v v si nt 1 if 1 1 1 1 1 m A1 FTER YEARS CF STUDY AND EXDeriinent. Dr. Roback. the eminent Swedish Fhj sician, succeeded in produding a medicine from twenty-three different species of mountain herbs of his native land, which acts directly on the causes of disease in the blood, and by restoring tl e corrupted fountain of life, to a condition of heaUh and purity, expels disease from the system, wherever it may be located, or wnatever may be its cn racter, Indigestion, nervous complaints, epileptic arid othftrf.t?f coii"; consumption in its early stages, sore mroai. Droncnius, ieer nuu uue, asuiuii, iu spirits, sexual incapacity, feminine weakness, prick ing of the skin, symptomatic of paralysis, rheumatism, neuralgia, tumor, cancer, diabetes, lassitude and debility, diarrhea, and all other disorders of the organs of respiration, the liver, the kidneys, the stomach, the nerves, or the muscular fibre, are unerringly cured by thia preparation. It is to the Materies HOR01 or seeds of disease what an alkali is to an acid: it neutralizes them with absolute cer tainty, while at the same time it regulates the secretions, remores obstruciions from the bowels, creates appetite, renews bodily vigor, and regenerates every anh'.al function. Such is the nature, such are the effects of Dr. Roback's famous Scandina vian Blood Pnrifier, which, if taken in conjunction with his Scandinavian Blood Fills, will not only ob it erate the most painful duease, but prevent their recurrence, and lengthen life beyend the ordinary span. In the "Scandinavian Blood 1'ills," Dr. Kobaelc presents the result of twenty years of experience, hard study and experiment as to what a perfect pill should be No one can doubt their superiorty af ter one single trial. I was induced to try your remedies through the persuasion of a friend, and after using them a few days was greatly benefitted, and in a snort time, less than a month, I was entirely and permanently cured. I was also afflicted with the most violent nervous headache, wnich I suppose was produced by my disordered stouaacb, for when my dyspepsia left mc, my headache left tfith it. I now feel better in every respect than I have for tenyears. Very truly yours, juuxm 0 ubaiutii. Cincinnati, Friday, Sept. 4, 1857. Dr. Roback Dear Sir: Having been afflicted with neuralgia or rheumatism for the past year and a half, and having seen your medicine, called the Scandinavian Blood Purifier, highly recommended by gentlemen with whom I am acquainted, I was induced to try it, but not before I had used various other medicines. After using two bottles, I felt its effects very sensibly, and upon using two more, I found myself perfectly cured. You will allow me, therefore, to congratulate you upoir making a discovery in medicine w hich is proving itself to be a worker of such wonders in the diseases of the human family. GEORGE S. BENNETT, Local Editor Ciicinnati Daily Enquirer. Indianapolis, WednesdaySept. 2, 1857. Dr. C. W. Roback Dear Sir: Having been troubled for several years with extreme debility and weakness, so much so that I was unable to at tend to my ordinary business at times, and having heard of the wonderful cures that your Scandinavian Blood Purifier and Tills were effecting, I was induced br a friend to try them. I have been using the Purifier for the last twelve months, and find the medicine fully equal to its recommendations. So valuable is its use to me that I cannot now dispense with the use of it at my advanced age of life seventy-seven years. I cheerfully give thi3 information for the benefit of those similarly affected. MORRIS MORRIS. The above certificates, and many others, can be teen at my office, by any one at any time.
