LOCAL AXD MISCELLAXEOUS. M..- - - . - . - , . J jj-Advertiaeniente, to insure insertion, must be handed in by Tuesday evening preceding the day of publication.! Notices of Deaths and Marriages will be published free of cha;-ge. Our friends will oblige us lv handing ia all such roticcs which may come under thfir observation. Any of our Literary friends, who feci disposed to contribute any tiding for the Democrat, can have the opportunity, and we shall be glad to have them tlo so. "Willi this number closes our connection with tlio Democrat, as Local editor. During the time which has elapsed since yq took charge of the "local department," many things have transpired that will long be rememred by ourself, and, no doubt, many of our readers. We have endeavored to keep the local readers posted on all matters of local interest. a3 fully as was possible for u? to do. Some have been pleased, others have.not; and some did not caro " whether school kept or not. " Wc have no fault to find with any one; we "paddlo our own canoe, " and allow every one the same privilege. If we have said anything which has hurt your feelings, we hope you will take it as an " error of the head and net of the heart. " If we have said anything that has pleased you, we are glad of it All we have done, you are welcome to. We have received nothing for it have asked nothing, nor do wo want anything; and until tha present number have not had any interest in the paper aside from a desire to see it prosper, as well as all county newspapers. Our father ha3 "seen fit, in his wisdom" to let oursalf and brother, P. McDonald, have the effice on such terms as will enable us to publish the paper in a manner acceptable to the reading public. With some of our cotemporaries w$ have had some pretty sharp talk; "And jet the conduct of the men Seemed hoi .est like and fair," all hard feelings, if ever any there were, on our part, arc now as' if they "never had been." We have passed through an excited political campaign run for offiee and come out "second best." For the course Fom3 of our democratic brethren have ta1 ... . .. ' ken, we have administered preparations that were not agreeable to those for whom they were intended. We care not now "let by-gones be by-gones," and hoping they will hereafter adhere more strictly to the doctrine they profess to advocate, we leave them tv "work out their own salvation" and assure them that we have treasured up no hard feelings against them for the curse they pursued, as what they have effected 13 a sufficient rebuke, for "all time to come", and, "Over the desk all day With weary an J aching brain, Wearing our li fe away, Counting another gain," Ave leave you, imploring the blessings of Divine Providence uponfou, and hoping your lives may be fraught with pleasures more abundant than ours, we bid you "good-bye." d. Mcdonald. By reference to the editorial department of to-day's paper, it will be seen that we have engaged the services of Mr. M. A. O. Packard, aa editor of the Democrat, in future. It is not neces3ary to say that Mr. Packard will make a good editor, his editoiials will tell it better than we can. He is a graduate of -Ann Arbor College, also a graduate of thev Michigan Bar. We have no fears but that Iiis efforts will be crowned with success ETThe "Low Price Store" ia out again with a new advertisement. They have just received a fresh supply of Fall and Winter Goods, which thej offer at unexceptionable prices. Give them a call. Brooke fc Bro. will take "Red Dog" at par in payment for Drugs, Medicine, etc. See notice in another column. "Will all who receive this number of the Democrat give it a careful perusal, and hand it to some one who is not' a subscriber? We ought to have at least one thousand paying subscribers, and with a little exertion on the part of our friends. our list will soon bo swelled to that num ber. " Godet's Ladi's Book, " for December, is on our table, laden with the good things of the literary n-orld. Address, Godey's Lady'a Book, Philadelphia, Pa. ; Arthur's Home Magazixe, " for December, has been received, and is what it purports to be. 'Old Letters, " on our first page, U taken from' it.'
