A correspondent of "Il.irper Monthly," sends the following verses to the Drawer;" hwsays: M. Drawer, As you received the "Mocking Bird" to favorably, I send you another poem by the hejc blind author. lie was not born llind as I said ia nay former letter, but lost hb sight when a mere chili. This piece relates to that circumstance. TUE CHILD OF SORROW. While jet a child, in playful mood leathered pebbles in a wood, Pefore my eyea a phantom stood That struck me with surprise. It seemed a woman; in her air Were marks of sadness and despair; Her face was pale, ter bosom bare, And tears had dimmed her ctea. The robe was 6ackclotb that she wore ; A goblet in her hand sh bore, With bitter waters flowing o'er The waters of despair; Wild was her mien ; her head was crowned With drooping willows; and around Her gloomy brow was cypress bound ; Disheveled was her hair. 'Twas Sorrow. On my infant head Her leaden hand the goddesa laid; Bo thou a child of mine," she said; "L t Borrow cloud thy days. She made me taste the Litter bowl 1 felt tha wa-er chill my soul; 'Thee with my votaries I enroll! Forsake thy childish plays!" She said; and I forgot my joys; I dropped my pebbles and my toys: Forsook the gambols of the boys, Nor joined their petty strife. And e'er with my increasing years Increased my sorrows and my fears; And I bedewed my path with tear Through every stage of life. Taking Care of One's Seir.

To do this with facility, a self-supporting ladder, a bug suspended from the person's neck, or a CJinenient basket are requi:ed. If apples arc to be kept they hhould never be emptied from the basket into a barrel, but should bo removed by hand, and in removing the bat reis they never should be rolled, but should bo taken up bodily and transferred to wagon or boat. It is the unnecessary bruibing.consequentupon rough handling, that causes many apples to rot. Apples of good keeping kind, when propeny handled, may be kept till spring, when they will command the highest market prices ; wlierer.s, when roughly handled, the same kinds will decay before mid winter.
