If a letter fails to get through as oon as the writer would have it, then P. M's may look out for a "raking;" if letters or papers get lost entirely, the P. Persons who writo on letters and papers to b.' mailed, never think for a second, that they might possibly be in fault sonulhnes, by misdirecting, or wrking so illegibly that it would take four clerks and an assistant to read the directions. When we had the P. 0.. a gentleman in town mailed a letter, or intended to, enclosing a draft of upwards of a hundred dollars to a firm in New York. No answer came from it, and was finally given up for lost, or stolen. In the course of two or three months the letter and draft was returned from the dead letter office, to the writer.
