2j"Aderti3em.3at3, to insure insertion, must be funded in by Tuesday evening preceding the Hy of publiciäon-Xj Th following was intended fur the last number, but was mislaid tnd overlooked: The coolness of the last M. C. Republican is laughable, when it speaks of keeping cool and charges this paper with bs'mg the pressor in personalities. The first number of is ever published under the management f it present ostensible ediior, (and of course before we could say anything of it, not seeing it until it was published,) wis 'he mst outrageously abusive thin" ever seen in print. We make a quotation: "Ci izens of Marshall county, be upon your guard against lying circulars!!! emanating from that head-quarters of iniqui y, the Marshall County Democrat office." It should be borne in mind that its editor had just come here, and wn3 a stranger to thi3 papei and its editor. "We scarcely noticed it for months; and meantime it charged the editor of this paper with all kinds of villainy lying, forgery, stealing from the county, frauds, and nearly everything but murder. The failure to notice it finally induced it to call tho editor of this paper "Mr. Mum;" and ur der that address he was assailed for weeks, and mean, low, slanderous articles, full of inaendos pointing at private citizens unconnected with this paper or politics, filled its columns, and to which no reply was made for a long time. At last it began on us; and the vilest and silliest of personalities were rained up on us by the column. Xow, when our sen ior who baa never been guilty of a per sonality asks it to keep cool and not be so personal, it talks of him and us as the aggressor, and saya it is only defending it self. Bah! What folly and how bare faced! The person who ha been supervising and furnishing matter Tor its editorial col umus fur the last few numbers, (an egotistical renegade Democrat,) is evidently ashumed of the way in which it has been conducted heretofore, and the change is for the better. We promised to write it into cme notice, and ior fear it would have to ston we have condescended to do so. Since we began to notice it, it has improv ed wonderfully; and if it keeps on, and drops its silly and self-degrading person alties, it may yet become respectable paper as much so as it is possible for one to become that advocates abolitionism and a concentration of power in the hands of Congress. Now do trv and rjublish one number without any personal abuse or falsehoods in it, and see if you don't &el better after it. Don't ted that silly story again thaf we wre the aggressors, for there is not one of your subscribers but knows it is false, and that you know it als; and you will no only lose their and your own self-respect, but mast stand an acknowledged perverter of the truth. Here we intend to drop you, personally. If you write and priirt decently, you will be benefitted by it. If not, you can wallow in your own nest, whatever it be, and enj'y its effluvia, whether sweet or otherwise. "Like begets like," and such seed as you sow you umsi rap, and we shall not winnow- it f jr you, nor strive in the harvest. LaPortc. We took a ride to,LaPorte, Saturday, to see Mr. Lamountain's Balloon . Ascension. On account of a rip in the Balloon, aboni te. feel in length, which was not discovered until it was ten; late to make the voyage, after it had been repaired, it did not go up. ' Mr. Lamountain announced to the people that he would 'make an ascension from that pläje on next Saturday, free to all. The number present was variously estimated from three to five thousand persons. We called at the Union office, and found the latch-string out as well as the editors. We found some gentlemen in the Sanctum, with whom we were not acquainted, and our extreme bash fulness precludeu the mcessi.y of introducing ourself. We didn't see any of the Times '.. folks. Laiv and Order.
We have heard it intimated that, as the Judge did not do justice (to the citizens, at least) in his sentence of Gipe, that they contemplate forcibly releasing the prisoner for the purpose of inflicting summary pun ishmant upon him. We think the Judge committed a great outrage upon the citizens of this county, and also screened a guilty culprit from receiving the punishment which his enormous crime entitled him to; but if we cannot have lato and justice, let ii3 at least have order. One riot gives precedent to another, and the stopping place is blotted out. So far a3 oui knowledge extends, mob-law has always ben attended with deleterious results to I h happiness and prospepiiy of any community. When w have such examples before us, we trust our citizens will subrail to the injustice until a more feasible plan shall preset i:self fjr the adjustment of the outrage inflicted. . SWe notice thai Ben Darling has fit u-d up his new room on Michigan street in a style every way worthy of the line stock of Boots fc Shoes he has lately put in it. W e advise purchasers to buy of those who deal exclusively in the trade. Ben is do ing a good business, both for himself and customers. The Whortleberry Trade Which will probably close with this week, has been one of profit to many of our citi zens, also several dealers in the trade. From tho most reliable infarmalion'we can get, the total number gathered in this coun ty the present season will not vary far from 5(J0 bushels. The average price paid vaj about 81, 50 per bushel, which would make a sum total of 8750,00. We call attention to an article on our first page.written by our correspondent, Jasper Packard. It is well written, and will be found to be interesting to those who prefer something substantial. We hope Mr. Packard will continue to favor U9 occasionally on his favorite subject education. iCSTThe attention of the boys living in the v'llage, is called to an article written by "Will;" it contains many good suggestions, which they would do well to pondor over befoie it is too late. Week before !ast we stated that it would be unlawful to kill prairie hens or chickens from the 1st of January to first of October. It should read "from fi-st of January to first of August."
