Our Population. Tho Jbrwm ßavs tho town of South m Bend polls about six hundred votes, which, according to the usual estimate of five persons to each roter, will make a population of about three ihouso ndf Whew 1 At the Corporation election in this place on List Monday week, two hundred and thirtj-three votes were polled, giving us a population of eleven hundred and fifty. One man, who has lived here for three ysars past, was not allowed to vote because his family was not here. Counting him one in the way of population, together with the ratio, five, added thereto, mate six, which increases our population to eleven hundred and seventy-one. We think that re can safely pat down seventy-five who did not vote, on account of the inclemency of the weather, which number added to the above, together with five for each voter, gives us a population inside of the Corporation limits of fifteen hundred and fiftysix! We do n't suppose any person will doubt our word for the sixteenth part of a minute, when we tell them there is, or ounrht to be, two hundred voters outside of o the Corporation lines. To thi3 number add five, and we have one thousand, which increases our population to twenty-five hundred and fifty-six! Allowing one hundred and fortvfour for widow vomen and their families, and three hundred more persons, who will undoubtedly locate in our town the coming Spring and Summer, wo can safely say that ou? population wiil not fill much short of three thousand by next Fall ! Plymouth School. We attended th closing exercises of the riymouth School, on Friday evening last. As speaking was the order of the evening. we had do way of ascertaining how well the scholars have succeeded in their atuJies; but should judge from the interest manifested in speaking, siuging, d'C , that they had made rapid advancement since last year. We hope the Trustees elect will procure the services of a comp-tent Teacher for the next year. The assistants, Mis. Locke and Miss Van Valkenburgh, whose terms have just closed, li:iv as fir a Ave have been able to leant, given general satisfaction, and we should bv glad to see them ensured fjr another term. Pay up! This number closes the first half of the second volume. All those who have not paid, ("and their name is lgion')are re quested, and may be required to call and pay up. Wj do not get enough on subscription to pay for the paper wo use, and incidental expenses; besides our labor. We have quiie .. respectable(?Jnumber o.i our books who have never paid us a cent since we commenced the publication of the Democrat. There aro also many persons who owe us for advertising and jab work, who have received the benefits of our la bor, without giving ua any remuneration. All the favor wre ask is, for those who owe us, to pay up, that we may be enabled t meet the long catalogue of expenses we are compelled to faco every week. We wish every man indebted to us, to consider himself individually called upon to pay over. Publishers. Just So! In the very same psper (meaning the I nd bnian) so belaboring a 'certain town is n editorial charging some "citizen and father," there (meaning Warsaw) with an net worse than incendiarism -Marshall Democrat. Just so! and the same "citizen and father" is a man of the same political stripe as the editor of the Democrat better known in this vicinity as the "Milford-mau." -Northern Indianian. Just so! you are too bigoted to do justice to any man who differs with you on the subjict of politics. Because the 'Milford-man'. a& you call him, happened to be a democrat, and no way of defendinghimself, you, to gr rtify your personal hatred toward him, give him "Hail Columbia" through the col umns of your "624 sheet" newspaper! S'pose that's what you call "Freedom of the Press?" Wait förtlic Wagoii. Maj. We were in error last veek in stating that th republicans 'offered Pat. McCarty fifiy dUlurs for his rote and influence at the aH Suite election It was M. O'Harry that they offered the fifty dollars. We hope the amende is satisfactory, and that none of the republicans will need hooping on account thereof.
