The election of officers to preside over our town for the next year to come, vras held at the Court House on Monday last. FRIGHTENED TO DEATH. The Democratic (Ohio,) Vindicator, states that a small lai, the son cf Mr. Huff, of that place, dLvi on Monday of Inst week from the effects of a friirht, in a wanton piece tf sport practiced upon him hy some id.e and mischievous boys. It seems that seme boys oleler and larger than himself, caught and misusod l.Sm, thicatetiin to cut his ears oir, and display in a knife apparently with that intent, his fears least they would carry their threats into execution were so great that he was thrown into spasms from which he never recovered and of which he died in a day or so af.cr the occurrence. Some of the Republican Candidates for corporation officers, who offered Pat Mc

Carty, an Irishman, fifty dollars for his vote and influence, at the late State election are quite Indignant toward the Dutch and Irish. They call them cattle, now, and other namds of like import. AVe don't suppose it makes much difference to them what they are called, but one thing we do know, they are. very good to work. We see it stated that Mr. Boker, father of Mrs. Dean, the hactonan's wife, has attained such a disagreeable notriety, that he has come to the determination to settle up his business and remove to Europe. Reckon ho thinks " Life's a swindle and a dream, i Things ain't always what they seem. " The Harrison Democrat states that a child of Mr. Smith living near that place, was drowned one day last week in a washtub. The mother had occasion to be absent a few moments, and on her return found that her child had pitched head foremost in a tub of soap suds, and was so far gone that it died in a short time.
