M. 1IcDOA1IjD, Editor. PLYMOUTH, INDIANA, APRIL, 9th 1857. Card Playing1. Among the many bad habits that are being formed by the young men of our town, that of card pbyi"tf " the most prevalent. A great many of tU boys hare already contracted such a habit of it that there is but little or no hope of their quitting, even when they become old men. As to playing for mere passtime, there may be no more harm in it than any other game, only it appears to be so much moro exciting and bewitching. Men that appear to be perfectly rational on all other matters, will ait and play all day and nLjht. and almost forget to eat or drink unless they have some of the "ardent," which is too cLen the case on such occasions. We do not expect to reform any of tha boys by this little article, nor by any other mcan3 that we could make use of, but suppose thoy will "tramp riht along" in the path thy have chosen: but we have a word to say to the giili who may think of becoming the wives of somoof our boys, who have formed this habit. The eleclon on Monday last, for Township officers resulted, as usual ,iri favor of the Dem cjaey. The- entire democratic ticket wastlected by a inajoii.y of aboiu one hundred end senn'een! Tho snow fell without any ccssaiioii until daik, which may be tl 0 reason of no small a majority. Had the weather been pleasant, there, is no telling how much our majority would have been'. The officers elect are as follows: Township Trustee, DANIEL J ACOBY, een. Clerk, JOSEPH EVANS. Treasurer, A. C. STALEV. Constables, DAVID now. SAMUEL F REESE. A. K. fThe Editor of the Weslville Herald has got a baby, and says he allows to call it Schuyler Colfax Powell, in remembrance of his distinguished friend of South Bend. lie says as he was going to his residere on last Wednesday af.ernoon, he discovered the child almost in a state of nudi;y, near his house, took it in charge and had some clothes prepared for it, and intends keeping it until he can find out something further in relaiion to its ungra'.eful parentage. We doubt not but the editor wih take good care of it as the tone of his paper

indicates him tobe a kind hearted gentle man, and hope that it may be well f jt the child that it found a home under an edit or's roof, instead of being compelled to remain with such ungr.f.eful parents. JC2TTwenty-two cents reward was offered for the editor of the La Porte Times, sometime since, who, it was supposed, had left for paits unknown. The Doctor hag returned; and say 8 he claims the reward, as being the original discoverer, but was promptly informed that there was not a sum belonging to the office, sufficient to pay it. The publica ion of the Times is suspended for awhile; in the m -an line, we hope "old scores" may be paid up, so that the Doctor will "receive his reward." jtSTA gr -at quan ity of new advenisemtMits, (some of which are unavoidably laid over un il m-x: week.) have encroached on our space f r reading matter this isue.
