.St. Lor is, May 12. The slcnmcr Star of the West arrived totlay'from Kansas, and tin following information is derived from passengers: The creamer left Kansas on Satuithy, the lUtli, O jv. Robinson ant! family being among the passengers. At Lexington, Mo., (J v. Robinson was waited upon by a committee appointed by ci.izens, and notified that th:-y fchou!d detain him on the ground that lie was fleeing from the Teriitory to avoid artest or an indictment of treason, which had been found against him by the Grand Jury x) the United States District Court. Gov. llobinson replied that he had been informal by one of the Grand Jury that an attempt had been made to find a bill, but had failed. This did not satisfy the committee. They insisted that Mr. lu.djir.son should remain, and he finally did so. The committee agreed to send a messenger to Kansas to ascertain whether an indictment had been found, and, if not, all the expenses of Mr. Robinson's detention were to be paid. The committee consisted of Mr. Sawyer and a number of the most respectable citizens. It is reported that a dispatch from Leavenworth has been received, staling that an armed body were cn route fvr Lawrence, for the purpose of destroying the evidence taken by the committee. While Gov. Reeder was in attendance at the session of the Committee of Investigation, at Lecompton, on the evening of the Cth, the deputy Marshal served on him a writ to appear before the Grand Jury at Lecompton toanswerachargoof contempt, for having refused to comply with a summons from the Gra.id Jury previously upon him. Mr. Reeder refused to obey the writ, and appealed to the Committee but they decided that they had no power in the case. St. Lor is, May 13. News has been brought to Lawrence by a Missouri slave-holder, that secret handbills are circulating, and forces marshaling in the border counties. He warned the people to prepare for defence.

The reading matter of the Chicago Times composes a great variety of useful and important information. Its editorials, rcjorts of lectures, literary notices, general miscellaneous intelligence, its daily marine and commercial reports, and its weekly review of the markets, commercial and financial, make it a p 'per of general information, and suitable to all classes and interests of society. Politically, the Times will continue to be as it has always been, the fearless and uncompromising advocate of sound Democratic Principles, neither deviating to the right hand nor to the left, to gain friends or to avoid making foes. The laws and Treaties of the United States are published in the Times, by authority of Government. So extensive h is the circulation of the paper become, that we have recently been compelled to obtain from the establishment of Hoe & Co., New York, one of the Largest and most powerful Steam Presse3 ever put in operation in the West. OUR ADVERTISING COLUMNS. The imnense, and yet rapidly increasing eirculation. renders the columns of the Chicago Times one of the very best mediums of advertising in the State. It penetrates every county, and visits nearly every Post OHice in Illinois. Its circulation out of Chicago in INDIANA, WISCONSIN', IOWA AND MISSOURI is equal to that nf all the other Chicago papers combined! A few advertisenu uts will be taken for the Weekly; but the space in that sheet is limited, and the first few applicants only can be accommodated.
