Another advantage we would here observe, that farmers in exporting their Produce generally travel a Western direction with it. Then to deprive this part of the Wabash country (the most noted forits rich Products,) of this means of navigation, would appear unreasonable. Of this section of Indiana possessing the richestsoil, of its being productive of the richest bounties of nature, there is no longer any doubt. We have lately been visited by the Gov. ernorof our State, and for his opinion on the subject we have only to refer the reader to tis -Message of the present year. We hope, however, that this subject will be settled to the general satisfacticn of our young and cn' tcrprizingState.
The Cnuvlordsvile paper, in noticing a few remarks of ours relative to the
Miamie Indians, appears to be much dis
satisfied. We un fortunately lost the pnper containing his silly remarks. On the standing comrmtt-e5, Messrs. Huntington. M'Bean, Vance, Colerick, De Paw,Hardcsty,I"ieids,Stafiord, Davenport, and Gardwere appointed on Canals and internal improvement. In the House of Wednesday the 4th, Mr. EvAtfs moved the the following resolution: Resolved. That the committer on fi
nals and internal improvements, be instructed to enquire into the expediency of employing a skilful engineer to Surrey the south side of the Wabash river, from Logansport downwards and make
an estimate of the proable difference of
expense, between the north and south side of said river in the construction of said canal from Logansporrt,to the highest point of steam boat navigation; and also to survey from the said highest point of steam bo.it navigation to the county seat of Four tain county, situate on the great bend of the Wabash river, and make an estimate of the probable expense of constructing a canal within the last limits; together titbits practk cability and importance. ! On motion of .Mr. Browv of T., said i resolution was ordered to he upon the table.
