~ Mr. Alfred Rathke was born on July 80, 1871 in Ribe, Denmark, and died Sept. 25 of heart trouble and complications. He was a resident of this vicinity for forty years. He is survived by his widow, two children, Everett at home, and Mrs. Charles Metzger of LaGrange, a sister, Mrs. Emily Yauritzen of Missouri, a brother, Walter, Wolcottville.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Methodist Church, of which he was a member. |
The Rev. Wayne Yeater officiated with burial in Eden cemetery. The Greenawalt Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
The Annual Mother’s Club din-'} ner meeting was held Monday evening, Sept, 26 at the Topeka Restaurant. Before the dinner was served, the new secretary, Mrs. Forrst Ream, gave the devotions .Mrs. Nolan Hartzler served as toa/;itmistress for the@ meeting. The | retiring president, Mrs. Elma Fodght, spoke on “Accomplishments” and the incoming president, Mrs. Don Crouse, sfpokei on “Aims and Ambitions.” Mrs. Karl Bobeck, the vice-‘president,} read some poems and Mrs. Kenneth Lehman, treasurer, gave an amusing reading. ; The meeting was concluded with a vocal solo by Mrs. Stanley Oesch.
. The new program committee is composed of Mrs. Lloyd Woodworth, chairman, Mrs. Nolan Hartzler and Mrs. Ellsworth Peterson.
Plans for a local union Sunday School institute to be held from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 have been made by churches in Topeka. Meetings will be held in the Topeka Mennonite Church and is especially for superintendents and workers at 7:00 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, and 2:30 Sunday. Three-sections have been arranged with Miss Esther Meyers of Chicago, primary Ileader, Rev. Wayne Yeater, adult leader, and Young People’s leader not yet chosen. The final meeting on Sunday evening will be open to the public. ;
The Clearspring Home Economics Club met on Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. Irvin Fought Mrs. Lloyd Woodworth and Mrs. Myron Spade, assistant hostesses.
