MILLERSBURG ECHOQOES

Organization of classes and various departments got underway this week in the Millersburg school. Opening last Tuesday, the school had an enrollment of 276 pupils compared to 263 last year. The increase occurred in the elementary grades with a decrease of three in the high school. This year’s senior class has chosen as president David Bartholomew; vice-president Don Sheline; sec-retary-treasurer Don Burtsfield; reported Robert Moser; sponsor Lester D. Davis. Junior class officers are president Robert Musselman; vice-president Glen Showalter; secretary-treasurer Peggy Schrock; reporter, Keith iShaffer, sponsor Miss Ella Mae Hooley. Sophomores elected president Carol Petry; vice-president Rose Ann Troyer; secretary-treasurer Marilyn Litwiller; reporter Lola Haviland; sponsor David 'Miller. The freshmen officers are president Ancil Schrock; vice-president Carol Hapner; secretary-treasurer‘ Lauretta Wilson; reporter Onole Burtsfield; sponsor Miss Veraenl Fredenburg. l

The local Boy Socuts enjoyed a pleasant camp-out in the Horace Virgil woods east of town over the week end. Chapel _services were held Sunday morn”\g and were conducted by the club chaplin, Rev. A. H. Miller. ‘

Mrs. Hattie Rice of Wolcottville returned to her home Monday after a visit with her cousins, Mrs. Retha Holtzinger and Miss Ruby Randall. -

~ Don Sheline has been named editor of the school paper, The Millerette. He will be assisted by Carol Petry as business manager; Herbert Moser and David Bartholomew, typists; Rose Ann Troyer and Richard Groff, mimograph operators; Marilyn Litwiller, reporter, and Esther Brennmen and Lois Swihart, reporters and typists. Miss Florence Grangwer, faculty adviser, announces that because of increasing demand for local community advertising, churches, clubs etc., arrangements have been made for commercial printing this year. A committee with Margaret Groff as chairman assisted by Blanche Showalter and Jumior Miller, will conduct this department. For information, contact ‘Miss Gangwer or Miss Groff. One new teacher, Miss Vera Fredenburg of Indianapolis, has been added to the high school staff. Miss Fredenburg, who taught the past three years at Noblesville, Ind., will be English and Social Studies instructor. Miss Rachel Hershberger, a member of the M. H. S. graduating class of '49 has replaced Miss Velma Hartsough as office girl. 1

The * September meeting of the General Culture Club will be held Wednesday, Sept. 21 due to the Farm Women’s camp to be held at Camp Mack Sept. 27, 28, and 29, Mrs. Grace Leer and Mrs. Laura Miller will be the club delegates this year. Members wishing to attend are asked to notify Mrs. Keith Keim before September 22. Meals may be purchased at the camp at minimum -prices.

The Misses Estelle Weigel, Mary McDowell and Vera Fredenburg, Mrs.- Dellos Chiddister and daughter Karen enjoyed a weiner roast Friday evening at the Chiddister cottage, Fish Lake, Mich.

Mrs. Melvin Thomas is substituting for Mr. Thomas as teacher of grades 5 and 6 while her husband is in charge of the rabbit and poultry display at the Elkhart County Fair being held in Goshen this week. ‘

Mrs. D. F. Stoner spent the week end in Goshen as a guest in the Charles Chrisman home.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brock and children Bonnie and Tommy, were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Reed and family.

. Mrs. Lawerance Cripe Jr. will entertain the Arbaugh Missionary Society, Sept. 16 in her home at Fish Lake, Mich.

The 30th annual convention of the Women’s Missionary Society of the Indiana Synod will be held October 13 and 14 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Mulberry, Ind. The Missionary Congress will be held October 1 and 2 at Grand Rapids, Mich.

Douglas Long has gone to Muncie, Ind.,, where he is a student at Ball State College.
