4-H AUCTION

The Noble County 4-H Club Auction Committee has totaled up the 4-H Club sale held August 19 at the Fairgrounds at Kendallville and is in the process of sending checks to the boys and girls. The sale of 2 lambs, 63 steers and 134 hogs brought the Noble

County 4-H owners $26,855.87. The steers average about 30 cents a pound and the hogs 29¢ and both

lambs brought 3lc. Some of the buyers that bought several hogs or steers are listed below. The Kroger Grocery and Baking Co. bought 7 steers totaling $2,027.49. Ben Glaser Auto Sales of Ligonier bought 3 steers and 6 hogs for a total of $1,245.08. Lyon and Greenleaf Flower Mills, Ligonier, bought 3 pigs for $157.65. Wilsons Feed Mill of Millersburgz bought 4 pigs at $225.75. Jim Koon’s Super Market at Avilla bought 6 pigs and 1 calf at $615.15. McCoy and Son Lumber and Hatchery Co. at Churubusco bought 1 steer and 3 hogs at $691.556 including the Grand Champion barrow. Ralph Weade and the Hi-Grade Packing Co, of Mishawaka bought 4 hogs for $275.40. The Noble County Farma Bureau bought 1 steer and 2 hogs totaling $469.60, and the Noble County Co-Op bought 1 steer and 5 hogs for $684.05. Avilla Feed Mills bought 3 pigs at $214.10. Fred Tollinger, Kendallville Sales Barn and Elkhart Packing Co. bought 1 steer and 3 hogs for $447.30. i

Twenty-eight girls 4-H exhibits will be exhibited at the State Fair this week. Ann Franks of Elkhart township will represent the county at the State Dress Revue on Saturday, September 3, and will also have a room improvement exhibit, Her exhibit will include a dressing unit made from two orange crates and the seat is made from a nail keg. : In canning, nine exhibits have been entered.” These include Ellen Cunningham, Green [fruit; Beverly Rhodes, Swan, tomatoes; Shirley Frick, Orange, cheeries; Demaris Rhodes, Allen, vegetables; Linda Schermerhorn, Orange, fruit, and a vegetable; Margaret Muesing, Wayne, Mary Bauman, Jefferson, Denice Baker, Sparta and Teresa Carteaux, Allen, will exhibit three jars from their county exhibit. »

STATE TO PATROL LAKES AND STREAMS

Special Deputy Conservation officers soon will police and patrol the hundreds of Indiana lakes and streams where numerous violations of speed boat operation have roused the ire not only of sportsmen but the good people who frequent such recreational areas.

Following receipt of scores of letters of complaint in regard to the reckless manner in which speed boats were being driven, Governor Henry F. Schricker or‘dered an immediate investigation of conditions with the directive that it be remedied at once.
