to receive the honorary “Who’s Crippled ?” citation for his outstanding adjustment to a handicap which has compelled him to depend on a wheelchair since an early ope.. -
Tribute to his courage and dgtermination to win is being paid by the National Society for Crippled Children and Adults which each month honors a person who has outwitted his handicap. The Chicago Metropolitan Unit of the Illinois Association for the Crippled will confer the award. Permanently crippled through an injury at birth, Paul Damai was never able to attend school. But his reading appetite was insatiable and he had a wide background of knowledge when he began his career as a writer. Limited to his home by his inability to get around, Damai lost no time in discovering his writing
How TO SHOOT A RIFLE @ | By ARTHUR E. COOK A\\" / National and Olympic Rifle Champion \\‘ N Advanced Training , A K / X ——-———-h———————-————_—-—'— f_. ."h\..\ (l’" e %— WIND
A bullet never travels iln a straight line. As soon as it leaves the gun muzzle, gravity begins to pull it toward the ground. . Therefore, at longer distances, the bullet is likely to fall short of the target unless (1) you deliberately aim high, or (2) you adjust your sights to compensate for the drop »f the bullet. ;
The same thing applies to noricontal (or sideways) movement of the bullet due to wind while shooting outdoors. Particularly with small caliber bullets, wind is capable of blowing the bullet inches off course. Again it is necessary to compensate for this action. If your rifle is equipped with an adjustable rear sight you need only to determine the amount of adjustKnow your gun

talent. Dependent on the radio for most of his current information and diversion, he realized that here was a subject on which he was well versed. He combined his writing ability with his radio knowledge and sold his services as radio editor to the Hammond Times group of northwestern Indiana daily newspapers for 17 years. During those 17 years he held positions for varying lengths of time as radio editor of Down Beat, correspondent for Variety, and contributing quiz editor on the Negro Digest. In addition, he edited a servicemen’s column, wrote a daily humor column and conducted a ?liz for the Hammond Times. As a free lance writer he contributed film, dramatic and record reviews as well as articles to national magazines. Having achieved wide recognition in his profession, Damai was determined to enlarge the horizon of his physical independence. With this in mind he designed for his home a special room with radio, TV, record space, desk, book cases and an elevator built for maximum utility in accordance with his needs. An attractive modern room with coral stone ' ceilings, bone-white walls and light-woog modern furniture, Damai’s creation has been pictured in Better Homes and Gardens and Popular Mechanics, ~
ment needed and the direction, and then turn the adjustment knobs the necessary amount. There is one basic rule to follow: MOVE THE REAR SIGHT IN THE SAME DIRECTION YOU WANT TO MOVE YOUR SHOTS.
Don't try sight adjustment until you have learned to put all your shots in a tight little group on the target. Then, if the group is not in the center you can correct the rifle’s point of impact by adjusting the sights. Remember that a rifle is only as good as its sights—put the best ones you can afford on your gun. , (This Instruction bpasea on ‘the DOOKletb “HOW TO SHOOT A RIFLE"” published by The National Rifle Assoclation, Washington, D. Utilizing Pear Wastes Conversion of the sugars in pear waste into feed yeast is a new process now being explored in the state of Washington. Normal accumulation of pear waste of factories in this state amounts to about 96000 tons annually. Laboratory workers have developed a process for eontinuous fermentation of press Juice from pear waste to produce feed yeast of high nutritional value, 60 pounds of dry yeast being obtained from each ton of the wet pear waste. The present handicap to commereial operation is lack of a suitable conu..uous press for efficlent sepearation of pear juice from the pomace. :
