“God the Preserver of Man” was the subject of the Lesson-Sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, June 12. o

The Golden Text was: “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” {Deuteronomy 33:27). _ Among the citations which comprised the Lesson-Sermon was the following from the Bible: “And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. But rather seek yve the kingdom of God; and all these - things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:29, 31, 32) ] The Lesson-Sermon also included the following passages from the Christian Science textbook, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mari Baker Eddy: “Step by step will those who trust Him find that ‘God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble’ ” (p. 444). “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need. . . . The miracle of grace is no miracle to Love. Jesus demonstrated the inability of corporeality, as well as the infinite ability of Spirit, thus helping erring human sense to flee from its own convictions and seek safety in divine Science” (p. 494).

MISSION DRIVE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS COMMUNITY

Community gifts to the recent Seventh-day Adventist drive for mission and welfare support totaled $1152.87, Charles Mattingly, local pastor, reported this week, “The members of the local church wish to thank their friends and neighbors for their loyal support of this annual church program,” he said. “This money has been turned in to the church headquarters, and will be used to aid medical, educational and missionary projects in all parts of the world. p

“Among the projects to be carried <out are equipping of the surgery department of a sanitarium in Rio de Janeiro, supplying of medicines to be dispensed by a mission motor launch fleet to natves living along the Amazon, enlargement of an African leper colony’ and establishment of a school in Hiroshima, Japan.” Worldwide goal for the annual drive is two and a half million dollars, and complete reports will undoubtedly show that the goal is reached, Pastor Mattingly commented.

AIT QUICKLY—and in your neighborhood it might be you. ' For there’s no doubt that this exciting new Riviera model — styled and executed by Buick —is the very last word in new body types. - | It has, as you see, the swift and racy lines of a Convertible, made even more distinctive by a bold new sweep of chromium along its fenders. But the top is solid—a single sheet of stout steel, neatly finished off inside with chromium bows. And a broad rear window curves gracefully around, giving really abundant rearward vision. Pish-button’ controls drop all windows out of sight at a touch, leaving not even a doorpost to block your outlook. And the interior trim is

GROSS INCOME TAX TO PROVIDE BONUS

The World War II Bonus Tax Act enacted by the 1949 Legislature ‘provides for additional rates of tax, making composite total rates, which are to be applied to gross income received by all taxpayers on and after July 1, 1949, regardless of the fact that such income was salary or wages earned, or derived from sales or contracts made prior to such date. the richest yet — a really stunning creation inside as well as out, As pictured here the Riviera is now in production on the Buick ROADMASTER chassis — which means 150-hp Fireball power, the silken luxury of Dynaflow Drive, and the matchless levelness of the Buick “dream ride.” That means “the last word” in brilliant performance as well as in luxurious dress and styling. . Production on this high-styled road star is limited, as you might expect. g To be “first with the last word,” therefore, it is wise to see your Buick dealer soon about getting your order in. : e

of the Gross Income Tax Act apply to the Bonus Tax. All taxpayers are notified that for the purpose of properly reporting income on Annual Returns, their income received during 19499 must be segregated on their records in order to distinguish between the total income received from January 1, 1949, to July 1, 1949, and the total income received from July 1, 1949, to January 1, 1950. ; This will be necessary because income réceived in the first six months is taxable only at the regular Gross Income Tax Rates of 1 per cent, or one-half or onefourth of 1 per cent.
