SO you think there's nothing new under the sun in pastries. Well, we will bet you haven’'t pulled a pan of Mayonnaise Pastry Crisps out of your oven yet. If we lose, then you already know that mayonnaise pastry is just plain delicious. If you haven’t tried it yet, make up a pan of golden colored Cookie Crisps today and serve with a colorful summer fruit salad made of apples, oranges and bananas. See how right real mayonnaise is as a flavor shortening for short and flaky pastry. Another time, add a little grated cheese to mayonnaise pastry and roll out to fit a pie plate. Bake. Fill with any sweetened fresh fruit and there you have pie at its very best. This recipe for Mayonnaise Pastry Crisps, originating in the Best Foods’ consumer kitchens, will also make two pie shells.

Mayonnaise Pastry Crisps 2 cups sifted flour 3 tablespoons 1, teaspoon salt water 23 cup real mayonnaise i

Sift flour and salt into mixing bowl. Cut in real mayonnaise with pastry blender or two knives until crumbs are formed. Add water anc stir with a spoon to form ball ol soft dough. Roll" out to % inch thickness and cut with a scallop edged cooky cutter. (For a novelty, cut out center and bake, replacing center befo.e serving.)* Place on cooky sheet and bake in_hot oven (425°F.) 8 to 10 minutes. Yield: approximately 3 dozen.
