RENOVATING OLD - PASTURES
A “shot in the arm” can be given to old permanent pastures by renovating them aeccording to Purdue University extension agronomists. Pasture renovation will be featured -at the Northeastern Indiana Grassland Field Day, June 10 at the Allen County Farm south of Huntertown. .
Some Noble County farmers will be able to increase their pasture production 100 per cent if the pastures: are renovated, according to J. L. Guthrie, County Agricultural Agent. -
In the renovation demonstration, all kinds of equipment including field -cultivators, disks, ete., will be featured. - County Agent Guthrie -says that farmers who need more pasture per acre and want their pasture program extended over a longer period of time should talk with one of the Purdue Specialists who will be at the field day. Besides the agronomists, there will be Purdue extension specialists from dairy, animal husbandry, -agricultural economics, and agricultural engineering departments attending the field day. "’
' Besides the renovation demonstration, there will be liming, grassland seeding, weed spraying, and fertilizing included in the morning program. Haymaking will be featured in the afternoon. Farm machinery companies and distributors will co-operate with the loecal committee in presenting the latest in hay balers, forage choppers, hay rakes, power mowers and many other pieces of haying equipment. Penta, a relatively new chemical which will lengthen the life of the average softwood fence post from three to twenty years will be exhibited by the Purdue Forestry Department and the Indiana Farm Bureau.
The field day is sponsored jointly by farmers, farm organizations, business men, civie groups, the Purdue Extension Service, the U.. S. Soil Conservation Service and many other agencies.
