“Reality” was the subject of the Lesson-Sermon in all Churches of 2ngrist, Scientist, on Sunday, March The Golden Text was: “Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8). ’ Among the citations which comprised the Lesson-Sermon was the following from the Bible: “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness; goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law” (Galatians 5:16,22,23).

The Lesson-Sermon also included the following passaies from the Christian Science textbook, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mary Baker Eddy: “Spirit blessesaman, but man cannot ‘tell whence it cometh.” By it the sick are healed, the sorrowing are comforted, and the sinning are reformed. These are the effects of one universal God, the invisible good dwelling in eternal Science” (p. 78). “To have one God and avail yourself of the power of Spirit, you must love God supremely” (p. 167).

FORT WAYNE CHORAL SOCIETY TO PRESENT - CANTATA

As its_ traditional Easter gift, to Fort Wayne and the surrounding area towns, the Fort Wayne Lutheran Choral Society will give its second annual performance of Johann Sebastian, Bach’s great musical masterpiece, “The Passion of Our Lord According to St. Matthew,” Sunday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, corner of Barr and Lewis Streets.

Based on the twenty-sixth and twenty-seventh chapters of = the gospel according to St. Matthew, the story of the suffering and death of Christ is one of the great choral works of all time. It will be sung in its entirety.

Featured with the 200-voice choir will be four nationally known soloists: Harold Haugh, tenor, as the evangelist; John McDonald, bass, as Jesus; Maud Nosler, soprano, and Lydia Summers contralto. These are the same soloists which appeared with the Choral Society in its initial performance a year ago. The entire production is under the direction of George Gehard Arkebauer. Raymond Beights will preside at the organ. There will be no admission.

The Rev. Loydd G. Sapp, pastor at Butler, Ind., will be the speaker in the Lenten Service at the Methodist Church, Wednesday evening, April 6 at 7:30. Rev. Sapp has served as the associate pastor of the First Methodist Church in Fort Wayne and is a graduate of the Garrett Biblieal Institute, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.
