GLAUCOMA
‘GLAUCOMA is a serious di- ¥ geagse of the eyes which is a leading cause of blindness. Of the 200,000 blind in the United States, about ,20,000 have lost their vision because of glaucoma. The disease is rare before the {age of forty but the incidence increases with advancing years. - In glaucoma, there is an increase in pressure inside the eyeball, The attack usually begzins with severe pain in one eye, slight swelling of the* eyelids, with watering of the eye, and great loss of vision. The eyeball becomes hard because of an accumulation of fluid in the eyeball. Medicines are extremely effective in most cases of acute glaucoma, but often have to be used by the patient during his entire life. Sometimes an operation is necessary to preserve sight. Through surgery, new paths are made for drainage of the eye fluids. = = ~ , Because of the great danger to sight, glaucoma is a disease which must not be neglected-and which requires individual attention. Each patient must have the special care which his particular case demands. Failure to follow advice or to continue treatment recommended may result in blindness. Diag..osis should be made and treatment begun at the earliest possible moment. ,

Musings Of An Edi g Editor Continued from Page 2 It takes time, and other things, which I may not have. I promise myself each evening to get to my task, but it keeps shuttling away from me. The job has got to be done for reasons not necessary to the purpose of this column, but getting it done is another story. This all brings me to an obvious point. That regardless of what we may do or want to do, it takes a combination of many elements, top of which is work. e s e A bathtub pre-heater is on the market for those who shrink at the thought of resting their persons on cold porcelain!

TELEPHONE TRAFFIC DISCUSSED BY LIGONIER COMPANY
Every time you talk to someone on the telephone, your message travels into the central office, thru the switchboard there, and out to your friend’s telephone. Because all calls pass through that switchboard, it’s a mighty busy place. It’s even busier than ever these days, for more people are making more calls than ever before. sometimes, during peak periods, there may not be enough facilities for the operators to handle all calls promptly. =
New equipment has been ordered;and when it can be installed it will help to relieve the telephone load. v ‘ :
