“God” was the subject of the Les-son-Sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, Janu-_ ary 2. The Golden Text was: “As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. For who is God, save the Lord? and who is a rock, save our God?” (II Samuel 22:31. 32). / Among the citations which comgrised the Lesson-Sermon was the ollowing from the Bible: “Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the vietory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all” (I Chronicles 29:11, 12). The Lesson-Sermon also included the following passage from the Christian Science textbook, “Science and Health with Key to the Seriptures” by Mery Raker Kddy: “All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, immortality, cause, and effect belong to God. These are His attributes, the eternal manifestations of the infinite divine Principle, Love. No wisdom is wise but His wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows” (p. 275). e Qe o Fish Lake Rev. Walter W. : BAD BREATH
DO your friends shun you, or turn their heads when you are talking to them? If so, it may be that you have malodorous breath You should find out, and do some thing about it. Halitosis does not originate in the mouth or does it come from the stomach. [t may result from a disturbance of fat digestion The malodorous fa*ty substance. absorbed from the small intestine. passes into the liver. From the liver it enters the circulating blood and thus finds its way into the lungs. The unpleasant odor is final ly exhaled in the breath from the lungs. Bad odors resulting from dead teeth, inflamed gums, or catarrhal conditions of the nose and sinuses are relatively uncommon causes of bad breath. Dental prophylaxis and hygiene have materially helped to eliminate bad odors originating in the mouth. : Patients on high fat diet fre quently develop bad breaths. When the fat in the diet has been dras tically restricted, the breath clears gradually, but the halitosis will re-appear when the fats are re instituted in the diet. . Lung abscess and bronchiectasis often cause fetid breath." The use of mouth washes does little more than cover up the bad odors and is a somewhat obvious disguise Consult your doctor so he may find the real cauce and treat it
! RHEUMATIC DISEASES : l
fIF you are subject to twinges of ' & rheumatism or any of the many ‘forms of arthritis, now is the time 'to take particular precautions ‘'against undue exposure to damp‘ness and cold. Arthritis is more {prevalent. in the north than in i tropical countries, and is aggra(vated by rainy, cold weathe™. { One out of every twenty per 'sons in the United Stgtes is a suf: {terer from rheumatism. Chronic [art_hritis, or joint inflammation, a iform of rheumatism, is appalling{ly common in this country and | causes great suffering. In some . gections more people suffer from ' rheumatism than from heart dis
‘ease, tuberculosis and cancer com'bined. As a matter of fact, everybody more than forty years of 'age has at some time had symp‘.tOms of arthritis. i Swollen and painful joints, painful and limited movement, muscular weakness and sometimes a fever are symptoms of arthritis. If ‘any of these appear, consult your 't'amily physician. ‘ Absolute rest at the onset, and :until medical advice is avalilable, 'is the best course to pursue. The 'attending physician will decide ‘the question of activity and outline the form of treatment. Rheu‘matic diseases not only require patience upon the part of the vietim, but the physician also must prepare for a long, drawn-out battle.
