_——————— Presbyterian Church Rev. Arnold Schaap, Minister Sunday School, 9:30 A.M. Arthur Smith, superintendent, Robert Schloss, assistant superintendent. Morning worship, 10:45 A.M. Mrs. Ed. Williams, organist. ! A very interesting program was presented to the Sunday School by the children. All in all our Rally Day was most successful as we came closer to the grand total of 100 (our goal for the year) than we have before and our large offering showed a fine spirit of giving by many. Our lesson this Sunday reminds us of the Nuernberg trial, come out and see why.
World Wide Communion is being held Sunday all over the world. This is the most supreme tie that binds Christian hearts in fellowship. The Master has issued a command to you and you and you: “This do in remembrance of me.”

the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord” (Isaigh 55: 6-83. : The Lesson-Serm6n also included the following passage from the Christian Science textbook; “Sei-. ence and Health with Key to the | Seriptures” by Mary Baker Eddy: “My angels are exalted thoughts, appearing at the door of some se&l;l; , cgre, in which human belief has buried its fondest earthly hopes. THOUGHTS ABOUT CANCER
THE art of living nowadays is becoming a comrlicated problem. One of these major problems of today is that of prevention, early diagnosis, and cure of cancer. When we consider that there are approximately 400,000 cases of cancer existant at the present moment in these United States we are confronted with a problem that will tax the ingenuity and imagination of the average individual,
particularly the scientist ande medical man. Also, that the mortality rate for some odd years has been approximately over 160,000 and ‘has been increasing slightly. Some estimate as high as 2 pér cent increase per year. This 2 per cent increase per year has been reached on the basis of the number of caseés diagnosed and treated. Now this may be due to the material improvement in our methods of diagnosis and treatment, and also the response of the general public to the educational program that has been undertaken by the American Cancer Society, and carried out through its Field Army. Incidentally, this Field Army has done a noble work. Those of us who .have given particular attention to this disease of cancer have noted material increase in response to those seeking advice. This has resulted in the earlier diagnosis and treatment, with materially more success in the ultimate outcome, ‘
We have observed that each succeeding year shows a definite progress in the number of cases that areMNa»pearing for treatment at a much earlier date. The average patients seen ten year ago had symptoms or evidence of malignaney or cancer for a period of ten months to a year. The patients seen today have had the sympioms approximately seven or eicht months. We ern say con

servatively that the vast majority of patients have not had evidence of the dreaded disease for more than three or four months. Now what does this mean? It means simply that we know from experience that cancer can be cured in its earlier phase; that is, in its inception or beginning stage, ‘
For clinical purposes we usual ly divide cancer into four stages In the first stage, or period wher cure may be effected, 90 per cent or more cases can be treated successfully, In the second stage rarely more than 50 or 60 per cent of the patients can be cured. The percentage of ‘“cures” in the third stage approximate 20 per cent, while cancer sufferers in the fourth stage as a rule may be classed as hopeless, or the best that we may expect is somewhere around 1 to 5 per cent, and these, as a general rule, are only partia! cures.
This offers one an insight as to the importance of obtaining an opinion from a reputable physician for any condition that does not show a terdency to improve within a reasonable length of time. Now what is a reasonable length of time? It varies again as to the parts involved. Of the utmost importance, if we are to eradica‘e or limit this dreaded disease to a rainimum, is to procure the concerted efforts of the individuals and the publie, and the ~hysicians . :
