Mr. A. E. Kelley spent a few days last week at Marenisco, Mich., the guest of the Five Hundred Bushel Club.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mayfield of Jackson, Mich. were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Oxley at their cottage at Dewey Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hathaway of Warsaw were Sunday guests.

Mrs. O. R. Bangs accompanied Mr. Bangs to Defiance, O. Sunday and will return here in two weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Bernard White and children spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smalley.

Miss Helen Sisterhen of Elkhart was here over the week-end with Mrs. Audrey Sisterhen. Royal Rothrock of Elkhart was a Sunday guest at the Sisterhen home.

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Schlotterback and Victor, Lowell McMann, Tommy Growcock were at Brookfield Zoo at Chicago on Sunday.

Mrs. Herbert Martin of Elkhart and Mrs. Roy Blues were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Pearl Kitson.

Miss Nettie Zollinger of Chicago is visiting her neice, Mrs. R. D. Shobe.

Mrs. Alva Wellman of Bedford, Ind. is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wellman and daughter Rosalie.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Taylotr visited Mr. ad Mrs. Frank Deisch at Nappanee on Saturday. While there they attended the Bourbon Fair.

Last Thursday Howard Urdanoff returned home from New York with Roger Sasso of New York. Mr. Sasso returned home Sunday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Spears and daughter Marilyn visited Mrs. Mary Alice Garlets at Mongo, Ind., Saturday. : )

Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Cowell of Compton, Calif. were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Spears.

Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Schlotterback returned home Monday evening from Hicksville, O. They were called to Hicksville, O. last week by the illness and death of Mrs. Guy Wilson. :

Mrs. Walter Robinson, Jr. and Mrs. Willard Scurlock attended the monthly nurses’ meeting at Kendallville Friday evening at the home of Eva Ott Surfuss.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Robinson, Jr. enjoyed dinner and the theatre in Fort Wayne Tuesday evening in honor of their seventh wedding anniversary. .

Mr. Glen Bleile returned to his home last Thursday from the Memorial Hpspital, South Bend, where he underwent an operation on his leg.

Churches Centenary United Brethren Church John W. Rollings, minister

Last Sunday evening eight boys from our choir sang the call to worship, . the prayer response and the anthem at the Missionary Rally at Kendallville. The boys were: John Jorg, Bill Stultz, Bill Hayden, Bob Hayes, Quentin Stultz, Dick Underwood, Shelly Hamer and Jim Stevens. ;

“Matter” was the subject of the Lesson-Sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, Sep‘ember 22. - .

The Golden Text was: “Tremble, ’hou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Tacob” (Psalms 114: 7), : Among the citations which comprised the L.esson-Sermon was the following from the Bible: “And Tesus looked round about, and saith anto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! And the disciples wvere astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith anto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God” (Mark 10: 23, 24). : The Lesson-Sermon also included the following passage from the Christian Science textbook, “Secience and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mary Baker Eddy: “Take away wealth, fame, and soeial organizations, which weigh not one jot in the balance of God, and we get clearer views of Principle. Break up cliques, level wealth with henesty, let worth be judged according to wisdom, and we get better views of bumanity” (p. 289 . =

To the office of deacon and deaconesses the following were ordained: deacons, Harley Chrisman, Walter Robinson, Jr. Ray Loy and Farrell Ott; deaconesses, Mrs. Ray Loy and Mrs. Everett Smith. Mrs. Wayland Spears and Mrs. Paul Ridenour are to be ordained at some following date. In addition to the reelected elders Gordon Warstler, Howard Herald, Albert Weaver, Arthur Kelley and Mel Rodgers the following elected elders were ordained to office: Lewis Moser, Arthur Smith, William Nelson and Adrian Biddle. Robert Sedgwick is to be ordained at some later date.
