Eight died in traffic accidents, two drowned and one death was attributed to heat. The dead in the Lafayette crash were: Alexx Sanders of Chiicago, Jennie Sanders, his wife and Mrs. Fannie Taretski of New York City, Sanders’ sister. . The injured were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Brooks of Chicago, Harry Eisentein Chicago,, Mr. and Mrs. ' Norman Atkins of Bonham, Tex., and their six months old baby. At a Lafayette hospital it was said that Brooks lis unconseious and probably will die. Atkins and his wife sustained internal injurieg and are in d serious condition. The Sanders party was returning from a wedding Sunday night in Cincinnati at which Sanders’ son Abe married Yetta Posner. The Sanders car was ripped open from the windshield back through the rear seat and the occupants badly mangled. ’ James Fertig, 9-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Fertig, Indianapolis was injured fatally when he ran between two parked automontles into the path of another. His death brought Marion county’s 1937 traffic toll to 91. Mrs. Dorothy C. Patterson, 20, Lawrenceburg was killed insrantly in an automobile collision c¢n U. S. highway 50, eleven and a half miles west of Seymour. The car in which she was riding skidded on wet pavement into fhie path of one driven by George Penca 35 Calumbus, O. . Roy Lee Weaver 22 New Castle was injured fatally in an automohile accident on state road 38, two miles

His brother Winston 17, a student at Central Nor:ual College Danville wasg killed instantly in the crash which occurred last Saturday. . kgl Issac Velleman, 45, owner of a chain of hat stores at Fort Wayne, was drowned in Clear Lake 14 miles east of Angola, when a small motorboat in which he was fishing overturned during a thunderstorm. Jack Manbach also of Fort Wayne a companion was rescued. Elfen Catherine Ballard 14-year-old daughter of Guy Balard, Illinois highway commissioner, was drowned in 'the Wabash river at Vincennes while wading. The girl who lived with her parents on the Illinois side of the river was believed to have stepped into a deep hole. ‘Wihlliam Clarence Campbei, 15, died in a ‘hospital at Angola after being overcome by heat while working on his father’s farm near Metz, east of Angola. %

HEID FOR'WRECKING AUTO Three Syracufe Boys Are Arrested After: They Stole Automoblie In.

Two youths who stole an automobile in Goshen Sunday afternoon, wrecked it, and then fled by hitchhiking. to their homes in Syracuse, are confined to the Elkhart county jail on charges of vehiele taking. In jail are Kenmeth Sloan, 19, and Walter Call. Jr., ,16, both of Syracuse where they were arrested Sunday evening: | Sloan and Call confessed stealing a 1937 Chevrolet sedap owned by Guvy Rosemtrader of Millersburg, from its parking plare near the corner of Lincoln avenue and Fifth street at Goshen about 4:00 p. m. Sunday. - They sald they started on a joyride and at about 4°30 during the heavy rainstorm skidded off the highway on the Middiebury street road. The car struck a utility pole and overturned. Tt was left standing on its top. Neither of the youths was injured. They fled to the south part of the city where they started “thumbing” their way to Syracuse. Police obtained Information from Mrs. Vera Horner of Middlebury street that ome of the boys in the car which had been wrecked near her home was a Syracuse youth by the name of Sloan. The arrest fol* lowed.

Call was arrested at a Syracuse filling station and Sloan was taken into custody at the Spink-Wawasee hotel where he was helping a truck driver deliver ice. The boys said they had come to Goshen Saturday afternocoa and after “getting pretty drunk,” they had spent the pnight in a used car at the rear of the Roth Motor Saleg The Rosentraders were attending the Lincoln theater when their car wag stolen. After the accident the car was towed to a garage. It was damaged to the extend of $250. Both youths pleaded guilty in Justice of Peace Charles Friblev’'s court Monday morning. They were bound over to the Elkhart circuit court. Bond was fixed at $l,OOO each. Nappanee Man Hurt John Housour 58 of Nappanee, suffered a fractured left collarbone Saturday afternoon in an automobile collision at the -Elkhart river bridge on state road 15, three miles ‘ south of Goshen.

m ] Fort WaYne Man Drowns Isaac Velleman of Fort Wayne, operator of a hat shop was drowned in the choppy waters of Clear lake mear Angola late Sunday afternoon when a motorized fishing boat overturned in a storm as a launch started towing it ashore, As the boat upeet it struck Velleman on the head and rendered him unconseiong and he plunged into the lake. Ford McNaughton of Freemont, Cperator of the power boat and a few compandons rescued Velleman and attemped resusciation with no results.

Charleg Girten, 61, of East Goshen was assessed $9.50 in Justice of Peace Charles Fribley's court Monmday whien he entered a plea of guilty to a charge of public intoxication. Qirten was arrested at about 11:3( Saturday night after he had fallex dowyp the Elkhkart river embankmeni He suffered lacerations about the head and was taken to the Gosheyp hospital.
