LOANS MADE TO NOBLE COUNTY Resettlement Admiristration Aided 72 Persons During Past - Year Payments totaling $23,865.75 werc made in Noble county by the resettlement administration from July 1, 1935 to Junme 26, 1936, according to information announced by Clarence Manion, state director for the national emergency ccuncil. Of these payments loans totaling $23,5621.756 were made to 72 persons, and $344 of grants to nine persons were dishursed. An additional activity of the resettlement administration, that of farm debt adjustments, showed that in Noble county 14 cases had been adjusted through May 1936 involving an original indebtedness of $24,414 with resultant savings of 3564.
- In addition to the saving through adustment there were 12 cases where loang had been extended ov where g reduction of interest rate had been effected. : ‘Manion pointed out that further benefit fromn this activity wxas noted in the taxes paid as a result of adjustments which in Noble county amounted to $827. The state of Tndiana, Manion said, had received rehabilitation loans through June 26, 1936, amounting to $1,346,802 which was actually certified for payment. Virgil Decker, of Kosciusko county who in 1921 was given a life term for the murder of Leßoy Lovett of Elkbart, near Etpa Green, in an . insurance conspiracy, was badly cut, requiring aumerous ‘stitches to zlcse the wounds, in a free-for-all fight among convictg at the Summit bonor farm southeast of Michigan City, a week ago, it has just been revealed by the Michigan City press. The safety drive launched by the state highway commission and the lepartment of safety faced its first lega.i entaglement last week. Judge J. Frank Mann freed Avzo Kevs in the city court at Muncie from a charge of reckless driving on state roads, holding that the state highway commission infringed on the prerogatives of the general gssembly in making the rule the defendant allegedly wviolated. “The marking of these = highways and the placing of signs on them doesn’t make a law,” Judge Mann held. e

The prediction that President Roosevelt would carry Indiana this fall by at least 100,000 votes was made in New York by United States Sen. Sherman Minton of Indiana. Minton and other Indiana leaders conferred with National Chairman James A. Farley.
Minton also .predicted that the Democrats would elect a congressman from every Hoosier district, winning beck the one seat now held by a republean. ‘ ; Gov. McNutt also told Chairman Farley that Indiana would be in the Roosevelt column thig fall. 4
Boys Hurt in Crash.
Struck from behind by an’ automohile as they were bicycling home after a Sunday picnic Kenneth ani Babby Ross, sons of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Ross, Elkhart, were serjously injured Sunday evening. Wallace Ross, 13, an older brother of the two boys, was also on the bicycle with them, suffered bruises.

Van Camp said he started to pass another car and had just swung to the left side of the road when the bicycle loomed in front of him.

Second Bad Check Discovered
Elkhart police today learmed that a second $45 check was passed in Elkbart by a man who signed bhis name, “Charles Wilson” and who was reported to be in custody in Chicago. A. H. Burueli of the Burrell Lumber Co., informed officers that the man ordered $l3 worth of rooifng material and oil at his office, He tendered g check for $45 in payment and received $32 in change. _

DeVoss of the Adams circuit court of Decatur, sitting as special judge at Fort Wayne granted Frieda Guilford former . Springfield township teacher of Allem county judgment for $4,652.44 against Springfield township. The court found in a special finding of facts and conclusions of law, thta Miss Guilford had been a teacher in the Springtield township schoolg for seven years prior to and including 1931, and thgt her services during all that period had “een satisfactory to the township trustee.
The court held that abandonment ot school district No. 1 in Springfield township, in 1932 was no valid reason for cancelling Miss Guilford's permanent tenure coatract sg ioßng as non-tenure teachers were being employed In that township. David Q. McComb In an appeall hearing Angust 31, 1982, had sustained the action, of the township trustee in dis missing the teacher. ’
Judge DeVoss ralel that the town ship bad breached -its indelinite contract with Miss Guilford by fnilure to assign her to a school during the years 1932, 1933, 1934 and 1935.
_ The court’s decision was based on the annual contract salary of $1.040 tor each of the four years, together with interest.

Lyle Neat, 19-year-old former high school basket ball player was exonerated by a coroner’s report in the death of his father William Neat, b 4. >
Death resulted from a skull fracture inflicted by the youth when he hit his father with a baseball hat. Depaty Coroner Joseph C. Lili at an inquest_accepted young Neal's explanation supported by other members of the family that he hic his father to protect the family against threats of violence.

Fall Fatal to Farmer
.Injuries he suffered in a fall off a wagon load of oats caused the death of John Willencar, 58, at Cameron hospital Angola. Willen-nar-‘a Spanish-Amecican war veteran, lived near Hamilton. He suffered a fractured hip and internal injuries a week ago in the fall. A blood clot developed causing his death.
Arrest Five Truckers
Five truck drivers were arrested and fined at Goshen on charges of violation of gstate trafie laws. Four paid fines on charges of excessive weight and one driver was fined for not displaying proper lights.
