Preliminary plans for the observance of National Conservation Week during the early part of April, were announced by Virgil M. Simmons, commissioner of the Department of Conservation. Definite dateg for the annual program will be announced within the next few days by the Educational <Conservation Soociety, sponsor. : : . Indiana participated in the sbservance of National Conservation Week for the first time in 1935 and recelved wide-spread recognition from all conservation authorities for its leadershp in preserving and protect ing natural resources. Special programg were stageq in every section of the state and emphasis was placed ‘upon local activities related to the conservation activities of tha state .and pation. "~ e ' With more than five hundred ac‘tive conservation clubs now participating in furthering Indiana’s conservation program, it is antiicipated that National Conservation Week will )be observed thig year in every com‘munity and reach almost every resi‘dent of the state. ~ Plans now being developed for par‘ticipation in the nationa! program, include the holding of special meetngs of each conservaton club and other organization interested in the varius phases of the conservaticn program. These meetings will bhe community affairg and include discussiong of conservation activitieg in the state, nation and the local community. The local clubs and conservation leaders will be in charge of the program in their community. Due to the activity of the clabg with their membership of more than eighty thousand interested men and women, Indiana holdg a position of leadership in conservation. Recgnition of this was given recen:ly when the National Wildlife Conference, meeting at Washington, D. C., recommended formation of conservation organizations similar to that functicn ing in Indiana in other states. The Indiana plan of giving all conservationists a voice in conserwvation activities, through the election of district representatives who meet with department officlals quarterly, has previously .won favorable comment from severa] state and national con‘servation organizations. Check Right-of-Way
A survey of all state highways included .in the seven-million dollar improvement program to be carried on by WPA workers, i 3 being completed thig week hy right-of way officials of the State Highway Commission, it was announced by James D. Adams, chairman. This survey is to determine where additional right-of-way must be secured before improvement work can be started. Attempts will be made to secure all additional rights-of-way necessary for this state .wide program, within the next few weeks so that there will be no delay in putting men to work as soon ag weather conditions are suitable. It is estimated that more than ten thousand men will be given employmen by this program which must be completed by August first. - Work is planned for approximately eight hundred miles of state highways. : The additional rights-of-way have already been secureq for the greater part of this improvement program and the present survey is te determine just where more right-of-way is needed. Unless this additional rightof-way can be secured promptly, delay must result in putting men to work at that point.

Egg and Butter Prices Up.
Egg and butter prices reached the highest levels of the season in the principal markets last week as continued cold and stormy weather curtailed production and retarded the movement to market. Snow blocked highways are retard ing the moveent of butter and eggs to market by truck. The influence of the zero weather on production of both butter and eggs is an equally important market factor. The severe cold weather has been reflected promptly in curtaild preduction. Under present weather con ditions, hens go three and four days and sometime longer without laying. The flow of butter is likewise check= ed by the necessity for® furnishing more feed to milch cows. : Local dealers were paying 2§ centg a dozen for eggs, the high mark for this year. The low mark was 18 cents, reached on January 22. Pullet eggs however, were bringing a dent less at that time.
