EIGHT KILLED ON HIGHWAYS
Automobile Accidents Claim Many Lives In State Over - Week-End
Auto accidents in Indiana:caused at least eight fatalities and resulted in serioug injuries to several others a United Press survey showed. Two small children were Kkilled and four other children of a Grass Creek family were injured in an autotruck collision near Kewanna. Bverett Nichols 4 and his sister Lois Jane 2 died instantly. Their father George Nicholg driver of the automobile the mother and two other children were injured. Mrs. Nichols was not expected to survive. Emil Strunk, 19, was killed ana three companions were injured seriously when Strunk lost control of his automobile on a curve and it crashed into a utility pole at Evansville. - £ Chester Lynn, 34, Fort Wayne, was injured fatally in an auto-truck collision near Fort Wayne. : Grant Hero 25 Hebron was killed instantly and George Slagel 43 Kepdallville was injured seriously when struck by an automobie while walking along state road 2 near Hepron. Injuries suffered when struck by an automobile caused the death of Joseph Airhart 90 a Civil war vet. eran at Crawfordsville.
Orville Bruner 22 Paoli was killed when run down by an automobile near his home. Homer Thompson, 92 Marengo was arrested and charged with driving the automobile. The car did not stop after the accident.
Products Show Plans Completed Dates were set and plans completed for the Albion Products Show at a meeting held Monday night of the Chamber of Commerce Committee in charge. i The dates of the show were set for October 256 26 and 27. The show will be located in-the Breeden Sales room in Albion. The following will be the classes in the show. Corn. a. 4-H Club Class. b. Open class. c. 5-Acre Corn class (10 ears exhibits). Potatoes, a. 400 bushel club muck crown potatoes. b. Open class '(1 peick) unwashed. Onions. a. 1000 Bushel Club (Yellow Globe and Spanish). b. Open Class (Yellow Globe and Spanish). (25 Ib. bag exhibits). ‘ Beets (topped and washed) open class 15 lb. exhibit. | Carrots (topped and washed) open clags 15 lbh. exhibit Turnips (topped and washed) open ‘ class 15 Ib. exhibits.
Cabbage open class 6 heads Celery open class 12 stalks. - Substantial merchandise prizes will be given for Ist. and second placings in all classes except the 400 Bush-’ Potato Club and 1000 bushel Onlon club. These clubs are sponsored by cash prizes donated by the B. & O. Railroad for the Onion club and the N. V. Potash Company for the Potato club. : All exhibits are to he in by 5:00 p. m. Thursday October 25th the first day of the show. Four drawings will be conducted ‘on Friday and Saturday of the show, where substantial merchandise prizes will be given away. Mrs. Ethel Stoler, widow ofi Carl Stoler was killed Friday evening at South Bend in an automobile accident Mrs. Stoler lived here formerly and was well and favorably known. Feeney was given by members of the Indiana Highway Users conference held at Indianapolig The meeting was called by the Motor Truck Association of Indiana and repregentatives of several allied groups were represented. , - Feeney outlined his program in an address, stating that he expected to institute his merit system of state police appointments and division of L&tm_.mlkq.ygrk into three district departments. e

Need For Wholesome Leisure Time Activities Cited By Wayne . Coy : A statewide recreation program for -unemployed as a part of the federal relief program will be placed in effect soon, Wayne Coy director of In‘diana Trelief announced. The program has been completed but is being held up penidng appoint ment of committees ‘in cities and towns throughout the state, Coy gaid. Designed to give recreational facilities for those who would not otherwise be able to enjoy such privileges the plan provides for development of community recreation projects. “The new plan is for two purposes first to meet the need for wholesome leisuretime activities for unemployed, and second, to provide suitable employment for a portion of the unemplyed who are capable of directing recreational activities,” Coy said. A supervisory committee of 11 mem bers whose duty will be to establish standards of recreation and qualifications of persons to be used to direct the programs has been named.
