Building New Sewer at Cromwell. The CWA project is to mean much to Cromwell—the building of a new sanitary sewer system. The extreme colg and snow has. prevented work on the new project, but some seventy men are ready to resume work just as soon as the weather permits. Soil conditions present quite a problem to the workers. Cromwell is located on one of the greatest clay hills in the count yand during wet weather the clay behaves like gumbo, while in dry weather it is almost impossible to drive a nail into the clay. Then at a depth of from five feet of more, quicksand is encountered and caveins are apt to occur at any moment. One occurred near the lumber yard last week and workers have been using curbing extensively since that time

To Cut Production Is Plan.
- Production cuts of 20 percent in corn acreage and 25 per cent in number of pig litters farrowed and hogs marketeq are the principal things required of the individual farmer in fulfilling his part of the contract with the Government under the corn-heg production and adjustment program, according to M. A. Nye Noble County Agricultural Agent. = These production cuts for 1934 will be based! upon the farmer’s average corn acreage for the years 1932 and 1933, and upon the average number of litters farrowed and hogs marketed from these ltters in the same years. This means that if a farmer averaged 40 acres of corn for the past two years, he will agree under his con-
tract to grow not more than 32 acres for 1934. Likewise if he has produccd an average of 16 litters of pigs and has marketed an average of 100 hogs from these litters during. the two years, he will agree to produce not more than 12 litters and market not more than 75 hogs from them during 1934, 97 s
" The individual production reduc-‘ tions, 'when multiplied by the :otal number of corn and hog growers throughout the United States, will provide the total reductions in these crops, which are necessary to help bring supply into line with effective demand. FEach farmer’s part will be a vita lcontribution to the broad national plan of production adjustment.
Cash benefit payments, -made by the Government ‘to those farmers who take part in the program, will make it possible for them to reduce their e¢orn and hog production withcut loss of immediate cash income, according~to Mr. Nye. Ang in addition to these cash payments the farmers will be in. position to profit through any improvement in' corn and hog prices as a result of production adjustment.
