W. W. Walton of the Diamond Hill farm owned by Mr. Kimmell has been very ill with pneumonia but is now able to be up again. ' :

A. M. Ripperton, Ligonier was a business visitor through the townsliip Saturday. Mrs. Irma Shumaker of the Wawaka high school faculty spent the week-end in Angola.

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Beardsley and family of near Toledo 0., were here Saturday. The junior class play “He's My Pal’ is to be given in the Wawaka high school auditorium April 15.

Refuses Loan to Pay Notes The interestate commerce commission again expressed its opposition to loans by the Reconstruction corporation to railroads to pay notes held by private banks. ;

It refused to approve a request hy the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad company for $1,000,000 with which to pay three notes due New York and Baltimore banks on April 26. At the same time a loan of $7,000,000 to pay bills; money due for the purchase of a short line railroad which the commission had required it to take over; three real estate mortgages; equipment trust obligations and Chicago taxes was approved. ; ; Terre Haute Wet A resolution urging amendment or federal dry laws was adoted by directors of the Terre Haute chamber of commerce. A copy will be sent to the national chamber of commerce next May. ‘ The resolution blamed prohibition for unemloyment disrespect of law and similar evils. It urged legalized manufacture of beer. /

Sentenced to Farm.

A sentence of 60 days on the state penal farm and a $5 fine was given L. E. Broughman Columbia City, when he pleaded guilty to charges of petit larceny in connection - with robbery of cash registers at a tourist camp and filling station near Warsaw. The loot amounted to $9. Broughman said to be a radio announcer at Fort Wayne engaged the attention of station and camp -attendants while his wife pilfered the cash drawers according to evidence. No charge was lodged against Mrs. Broughman.

Horses Can Remember

Three years #ago Scott Whitford of Kendallville motorized his milk route and turned his faithful mare Fannie out to pasture. The motor milk wagon was recently wrecked in an accident. The old steel tired milk wagon was brought out from the barn and Fannfte wag put into harness. Whitford said she went over the old route making all of the stops without a mistake and within three days had learned the homeés of all the customers.

Max Kos 37 World war veteran convicted on an involuntary manslaughter charge whose pardon plea was carried to Governor Harry G. Leslie by the American was to be taken to the Indiana state prison to begin sery ing a one to 10 year term. His entrance in the prison was to bring to a close a court battle that lasted nealy two years. <t Kos was sentenced in 1930 as the result of the death of two Indianapolis street railway employes Kkilled by an auto New Year's Eve 1928.

Two Cottages Burned

Two summer cottages at Lake Gage with their furnishings were destroyed by fire. They were owned by Dr. W. E. Thorton of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Minnie Campbell of Muncie. The estimated losg is more than $6,~ 000.

ChurubuSco Man Dies

Andrew J. Kostielney-45 of Churubusco died at the Garertt hogspital following a stroke of paralysis. Several brothers and sisters survive, including Jospeh and Martin Kostielney of Noble county and a sister Mrs. Margaret Oakes of Noble county.

Representative Dies

Representative Albert H. Vestal 57 of Indiana the Republican whip died of heart disease at the Naval hospital. Vestal’s death was announced by Sergent of arms Kenneth Romney of the house. :

New Trial May 11

Special Judge William P. Endicott of Auburn late Thursday afternoon postponed the argument of the case of W. A. Gillian of Kendallville for a new trial until May 11. Special Prosecutor F. L. Bodenhafer of Kendallville and B. E. Gates prosecutor Objected strenuously to the continuance but to no avail.

Gillian formerly vice-president of the defunct Noble County Bank & Trust company was found guilty of embezzlement by a jury on February 4. The trial started January 18 and thirteen days were spent in trying the case. ’ ‘

The motion for a change of venue from the county in the case of the State vs. M. K. Jacobs of Kendallville was heard late Thusday afternoon before Special Judge M. H. Spangler of Albion. Jacobs is also charged with embezzlement in connection with the closing of the bank on January 10 1931. After hearing teh agrument the case was venued to Steuben county.

Chemists’ reports that water in the well at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz Keller near Daleville contain-~ ed poison caused warrantg to be is~ sued at Anderson for the arrest of Hubbart Younts 25 whose wite is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keller Mrs. Younts filed charges that her estranged husband placed arsenic in the well in an attempt to poison herself and her parents.
