' 2
The income tax receipts lisied tor March 15 were larger than expectad being only about $350,000 less than collections on the corresponding day last year. 21,793 ACRES IN STATE FORESTS
Waste and Idle Acres Are Being Put To Work Te Develop Timber :
State forests ‘controlled by the cosservation department totaled 21,793 acres as of March 1 according to Richarq Lieber department director and by the last of this month will have reached a figure of 22,526 acres negotiations having been closed for an addition of about 3,000 acres. One of the most important phases of the forestry program is the public acqugsition of sf,ate forests, says Ralph F. Wilcox state forester. By consolidating large areas of forest asd waste lands a consistent working, plan of fire protection, tree planting and woodland improvement is impossible When supervision is spread over a large tract the cost becomes low for each acre. :
Wilcox points out that forests in private handg fall heir, as a rule to the iniquities of changing ownerships One owner may burn, pasture, or cut and destroy in one year a timber crop which the previous owners have been decades in producing. The state forester also brought out the point that lands being constantly acquired by the department are waste or idle acres, and their removal from competition with good agricultural lands have a tendency to aid the farmer.

HAVE A RADIO PARTY My campaign for the Democratic nomination for Congress must be made largely by radio. I am a work ing man, although I work at a desk, and can not do as wealthy candidates or idle ones can—spend my time running up and down the district calling on the leaders who imagine they control the votes of their towns or counties. ‘I think in these days that really is largely imagination, anyway. But I can do this. I can chat with you a few minutes occasionally by radio. lam goining directly to the voters of the Fourth Congressional Distriet in that way. Please do me the honor to tune me in. I will not impose on you with a. long speech. My chat will be short ang definite. There will be no oratory. But I will “sayy things.” e
