TAX PROGRAM CONSIDERED Governor Will Be Asked to Call Special Session If Agreement Can Be Reached The taxation revision program out lined by the citizens tax relief committee would effect a net saving or $18,428,882.69 for the pocketbooks ot Indiana citizens sponsors of the plan said. :
At the same time the cost of gov ernment which has increased sufficiently to create a general clamor for a special session of the legislature to provide relief would be shifted to relieve real estate and personal property owners of approximately 25 per cent of their present burden it is pointed out.
~ The plan was being studied by state legislators whose approval will be sought before it is presented to Governor Harry G. Leslie with a demana that a special session be convened to enact its provisions. The plan provides for a cut of $35,628,882.69 in the tax revenue now obtained through levies on real, tangible and personal property. of this amount $26,018,882.69 would be saved through governmental retrench ment measures and redistribution or gasoline taxes and auto license fees the committee explains. To make possible the remainder of the cut in present revenue tha committee recommends special taxes intended to produce $600,000. Auto owners would be called upon to bear the brunt of increased revenue. The program urges a 25 per cent increase in license fees for passenger autos and a 100 per cent increase in fees for trucks, these increases woula produce $8,954,945.52, the committee contends compared to the present revenue of $6,291,098.40. Another recom mendation would impose a special tax or license fee on a ton mileage or passenger capacity basis on all motor vehicle common carriers.
‘The proposed taxation system also is intended to make incomes of the average citizens bear part of the government’s expense. Under its recommendations an income tax law would be enacted. In order to bring hidden wealth to the tax duplicate. The committee recommends that 25 per cent of a person’s total intangibles be taxed. This provision has been suggested before but no definite action taken. Legislators have claimed that intangibles should be taxed at their full value under the present law rather than to acknowledge the dishonesty of citizens by exempting 75 per cent of their intangible property. Another group that would suffer directly under the propesed plan includes governmental employees. The committee recommended that persons paid from public funds and receiving $1,400 or more a year, should have their salaries reduced 10 per cent. This would effect a saving of approximately $8,700,000. The proposals were drafted by a special committee consisting of Walter S. Chambers Newcastle; J. Clyde Hoffman Indianapolis and Ralph Adams Shelbyville. ‘The proposals upon which state senators give their approval will be presented to members of the houss. If enough are confirmed to constitute

Gets Ducking With Tceboat
Hugh Eshelman 24 of Wolcottville was given a real thrill at Rome City while manipulating a one-man iceboat and many agree that only a stroke of good luck gsaved his life.
Eshelman, riding a homemade power driven iceboat started on a ride across the lake from a point near the Pennsylvania depot. When he reached.a point near Gem island on the north side of the lake he struck a weak spot in the ice and his cold weather chariot went under, taking the rider with it. il Fortunately Eshelman came to the surface at a spot where he was able to grasp solid ice and climbed to safety. He was thoroughly drenched and as a brisk wind swept across the lake he became thoroughly chilled. He reached Owen’s restaurant at Rome City and warmed himself and was finally taken to his home.

Wake Up Your Liver Bile ~ —Without Calomel
And You’ll Jump Out of Bed in the Morning Rarin’ to Go " If you feel sour and sunk and the world looks punk, don’t swallow a lot of salts, mineral water, oil, laxative candy or chewing gum and expect them to make you suddenly sweet and buoyant and full of sunshine. For they can’t do it. They only move the bowels and a mere movement doesn’t get at the cause. The reason for your down-and-out feeling is your liver. It should pour out two pounds of liquid bile into your bowels daily. ,
By Charles McManus
When his dog “Bones” became in(‘?urably ill a Hammond resident summoned two policemen to kill the shaggy-haired animal.
The officers took the dog to a deserted spot and drew their weapons debating which should perform the execution. But they were saved the task. At sight of the-guns the dog dropped dead. : Tax Bill Puzzles : Determined opposition devlioped in the house ways and means committee to approval of any exemptions or alterations in the tax bill as now pending in the house.
