Three Million Spruce Trees

Three hundred pounds of Norway spruce seed collected in the Black Forest of Germany have been received by the forestry division of the state conservation department for planting in the state’s tree nursery at the Clark County State Forest, This seed will produce more than 3,000,000 secdlings to be 'sold at a_cost of production in the spring of 1933 according to Richard Lieber department director. 3

500 Miles of Pavement

Plans now are going forward according to John J. Brown director for building 500 miles of pavement in 1930 and to this end 245 miles and slightly in excess of $1,000,000 worth of bridges are already contracted. The commiission also -will cause to be treated with oil and calcium chloride many miles of road not in this year’s paving program to make them dustless and likewise to conserve the gravel and stone surfaces. v

In 1929 432 miles of pavement were constructed the largest number’ on record. :

Old Civil War Letters

Mrs, Monroe Ott of East Benton exhibits a letter dated August 14th, 1863 over 66 years old directed to her father Rudolph Hire from Deskin C. Davis while he was stationed at Murph-. reeshoro Tenn., during the Civil war. The penmanship is of the old fashioned style and has held its color during all these years. :

Deskin Davifexpresses his feelings in this letter towards some of his neighbors who were opposed to the war in terms of extreme contempt.— Goshen WNews-Times.

Wants Law Repealed

Another big business man demanded repeal of the 18th amendment when Plerre S. DuPont of the vast Du Pont intrests testified before the house judiciary committee. ~ Starting the final day of presentation of the wet case Du Pont took the position that prohibition had failed even to curb much less prevent the use of alcohol. ;

The Noble County -Beef: Calf: Club held two half-day tours Saturday February 22nd. : / In the forehoon the calves in the east and northern part of the county were inspected by a group of 27 members and friends. At'l:ls forty members and friends assembled at the home of Wm. Flowers in Sparta Township and throughout the afternoon the calves in the west and southern part of ‘the ‘county were seen.
