A" resident of Brimfield says an epidemic of dog poisoning has strucH the town and the fatalities have been numerous. Cifizens are up in arms, however at the method wused. “It would be infinitely better to come into the yards and shoot the dogs,” said a prominent citizen, “than to scatter poisoned bologna in the yards where children play. A little girl became seriously ill and the parents were frantid when they found a piece of poison bologna in their yard. Don’t kill any human beings in trying to kill the dogs.” Pair Pinned Beneath Car. Raymond Staley residing north ot Warsaw and Edna Moore of Burket, had a narrow escape from death or serious injury about 9 o’clock Sunday night when their car turned ovey as they were crowded‘off the highway. Both of the passengers werg pinned under the car and were rescued by a Peru party who took them to- the Emergency hospital. Staley suffered a bruised shoulder and Miss Moore suffered a bruised shoulder and side. - In Serious Condition, County Commissioner Lewis E. Schroyer is in a serious condition at his home near Leesburg as the result of a perculiar accident, , He was placing a ring in the nose of a hog at his farm when the stick binding the tourniquet about the hog’s nose because loosened and struck him on the head, facturing his skull. ' Is Mother of Three Mayors. Elizabeth H. Nester, of Boonville, now is the mother of three mayors. In 1905, John F. Heinzle, a son, was elected the first maycr of Boonville, four years later another son, Fred Heinzle became mayor of Tell City and this year's election made a third son, Floyd Nester the mayor-elect of Boonville. Now Totally Blind. Granville Landis of Wakarusa who was taken to the General hospital in Elkhart submitted to an operation for the removal of an eye. The operation was made necessary by an infection. Mr. Landis’ other eye had already been removed and he is now totally blind. - Shoots Self in Head Kirby L. Sprott 38 well-known insurance agent of Auburn was shot iy the head Friday noon dying instantly while in the athroom of his home on South McClellan stret. The load from a 12-gauge shotgun entered the right side of the head below the temple and went out between the eyes. Meeting of Ladies Aid. The Pleasant Hill Ladies’ Aid will hold their Thanksgiving Bazaar along with a pot luck lunch and mite offering at the home of Mrs. Ulric Butz on Thursday afternoon Nov. 21. " The Better Business Bureau is to investigate and fight “get-rich quick” schemesg promulgated by means of the radio says an Exchange. The absence of law prohibiting the broadcasting of matter that would be barred by postoffice authorities if sent through the malls and the wide range of audience makes the radio a perfect mode of expression.for the dishonest promoter. The management of broad casting stations has the power to curb fraud of this sort and the better class stations are cooperating their facillties. However it is probable that the stock grafter will always be able to hire a station to broadcast his message to prospective “suckers.” The mails the telegraph and the telephone have all played a part in the selling wiles of the promoter. It is but logical that the radio should come next And the public is almost entirely witl out protection. 5

Man is Eleetrocuted.

. Walter Brenneman, 47, of Mishawaka, was instantly killed Wednesday when he came in contact with a high’ voltage line in the Elkhart power house. Brenneman was in charge of a crew of men who were doing reconstruction work in the Elkhart plant, and in some manner a short circuit on one of the switches resulted. Several other men were at work in the room at the time, but none actually saw how the accident accurred. The lights of the downtown district were out for five minutes as a result of the short circuit.

Man Gets 1 to 5 Years.

Pleading guilty to a charge of still possession John Penzo 44 Chicago Italian whom officers found in charge of an alcohol plant at Fort Wayne September 7 was sentenced to servg from 1 to 5 years in the state pri-son-at Michigan City by Judge Sol A. Wood in circuit court at Fort Wayne. Penzo was also fined $lOO and Chief of Police Walter Kavanaugh was ordered to destroy the alcohol and stil} seized in the raid, :

Shot Goes Wild.

Sheriff-elect Hoffman created a scare last Thursday while in Kendallvile when in a business house looking at some guns. The eclerk had handed Mr. Hoffman a .32 caliber revolver and.told him it was loaded. While inspecting the gun it was discharged. Fortunately the bullet struck the telephone standing on the counter otherwise it would have gone through the window into the street. | Chicken Pox Prevails, ~ Chickenpox has broken out among schools pupils in York township and the speckled youngsters are being ket at home. : 'Benton Bridge to Open The temporary hridge over the Elk-

hart river at Benton on state road two will be ready for use by November 24 according to word received here from A. H. Murphy of Indianapolis an engineer of the state highway commission. An unavoidable delay has been encountered in the construction of the temporary span Mr. Murphy reported. : . - The bridge over the Elkhart river at Benton collapsed several monthsago and since that time traffic has been routed over detours. The detours are in bad condition and much east and west bound traffic is being routed over other highwavs to avoid the detours. A(_‘hamhm' of Commerce secretaries from South Bend Mishawaka Elkhart Goshon;Ligonivx' and Fort Waj*ne have urged highway officials to rush the work.

Rusty Nail Fatal to Elkhart Man A wound in his %oot received a week ago Sunday when he stepped on a rusty nail proved fatal Thursday morning to Henry S. Gets Medal in Corn (Contest

Eighty-seven and seven-tenths blfshels of corn on a five acre-plot has entitled Perry Whan of Swan township to a silver medal awarded by the Indiana Corn Growers’ Association the yield having been checked by J. H. Miller of Purdue University.
