Slick presiding, the first proceedinz being arraignment of 316 defendants charged with prohibition law violations. Arraignment of officials and others believed leaders in Lake county liquor traffic was delayed until Wednesday by Judge Slick. Those who will face the court then include Mayor Raleigh P. Hale East Chicago; James Regan, police chief; Eddie Higgins safety board member - and about 20 Gary policemen. ; 2 Man Is Missing - Friends of Ad Cammack formerly of Milford are alarmed over his continued absence as no trace of him has been found for the last five weeks. His personal effects including his ~clothing are in a room in Warsaw and he did not tell his landlady that he ‘was going away. Friends are searching for him. Mr. Cammack had been prominent in Masonic circles for several years. Baby Is Abandoned in Store A three months old baby girl was abandoned in the S. S. Kresge store at Fort Wayne Saturday .afternoon. A young woman believed to be the child’s mother asked to leave the child which was asleep at the time for a tew moments. She never rcturned. Louis Kerr paid his old friend George W. Jailed For Theit : " Qidney Hunt 25 of Churubusco was arrested Friday night by county authorities for the alleged theft of a phono‘graph and othar property from William Shively a Whitley county farmer. ; Hunt is said to have broken into Shively’s home while the owner was, absent stolen the phonograph together iwith thiry phonograph records and a ‘pony saddle. Truckman Arrested : ' Ernie Jacobs Toledo truckman was arrested eight miles east of La Grang=e for ‘driving while intoxicated. after he had driven his truck into two automobiles and smashed the truck against a telephone pole. ; Jacobs ran across a field after the accident and offered a farmer Ellis Holsinger $lOO if he would take him to Toledo. : s ' ~ The farmer suspicious. called the sheriff and Jacobs was lodged in the county jail. v Wakarusa Boys Arrested . Clifford ‘Wise 16 Charles Hughes, 16 and Marian Hartman 17 ~three youths residing east of Wakarusa are facing charges of petty larceny in Justice of the Peace Charles P. Violence resulted in a number of deaths throughout the state over the week-end with automobile “accidents as usual accounting for the largest number. Two other accidental deaths and two suicides swelled the total. He dropped 40 feet. 1 Jimmy Davidson age 2 strangled toi death at Evansville on a bean he picked up in his father’s store. : Augustus Cobb 56 farmer of near | Lebanon committed suicide by shooting himself in the head at his home while R. S. King 35 Mooreshill, Ind., ended his life in the same manner in a Cincinnati hotel. : Fred Brulinger 50 farm hand on the farm of R. W. Bailey near Anderson was killed when rundown by an automobile driven by B. C. Harris. of Indianapolis. Harris was held blameless. Paul Overton 30 of Monon was Killed Sunday night when an automobile crashed into a transmission line pole two miles southeast of Monon. Three other persons in the machine suffered slight injuries. John Looker 78 died Sunday in a !‘Richmond hospital of injuries suffer‘ed several days ago when he was struck by a street car.. . Drive For Members The next Noble county Farm Bureau campaign for membership will begin with a school of instruction to be held at Albion Wednesday November 13 with Louis Taylor and Ed Stevens of the state headquarters present as instructors. This was determined at a meeting of the Farm Bureau board of directors held at Albion. It is hoped to complete the “drive” in nine days and on Friday November 22 a banquet will be served at Albion to be paid for out of county Farm ‘Bureau funds, the solicitors being expected to attend and make full report of the progress made when there will be-a general checkup. Good speakers will be secured for this banquet. } For Postmaster at Wawaka The United States givil service commission has announced an examination to be held at Ligonier to fill the vacancy in the position of fourth class postmaster at this office was $937 for the last fiscal year. Applicants must have reached their twenty-first birth day and not their sixty-fifth birthday on the date of the examination. Application blanks form 1753, and full information concerning the requiremenst of the examination can be secured from the postmaster at the place of vacancy or from the United States civil service -commission Washington; D. C. The receipt of applications will close on Nevember 22. o ‘ Chamber of Commerce to Meet . Hom\e‘ Furnishing Project A county program consisting of home fugnishings demonstrations exhibits and entertainment will be given by Home Division project leaders from the twelve townships assisted by Miss Blanche Zaring of Purdue University at the Opera house in Albion on Wednesday afternoon November 20 commencing at one o'clock. ‘The event will correspond to the achieve ment day meetings of previous years and is expected to attract the usual number of visitors from all over the county. : : The leaders will assemble that morn ing to get everything in readiness and to receive their fifth and last lesson

Only Survivor May Recover After physicians had despaired of saving her life four year old Betty Belle Vaughn the only survivor of Osceolals tragic train- automobile ¢rash of Friday night which gost nine lives was believed to be winning her battle against death in St. Joseph's hospital at Mishawaka. : Attaches of the hospital reported that the little girl had regained consciousness Sunday evening and Monday had shown such improvement that doctors held out the hope that the tot would recover.. -
Farmer Drives Car Into Train Herman Green farmer residing near Auburn was seriously injured Saturday when he drove his auto into west bound passenger train No. 7 on the B. & O. railroad. _ e The accident occurred at a private crossing at Mr. Green’s farm as he was about to start for Auburn. Mr. Green sustained a serious scalp injuries and is paralyzed on the left side due to a blood clot on the brain. He is now in Sacred Heart hospital at Garret . The car was demolished. The Gleaner Class had a fine attendance at its regular business meeting Tuesday evening at Mr. Rockhill’s. Fall 20 Feet While sawing a limb off a tree in his yard Saturday afternoon M. H. Loomis of Kendallville was painfully iinjured when the falling limb knocked the ladder from under him. He fell perhaps twenty feet and the ladder fell on top of him. He was injured about the head and face. He had just purchased a new pair of twenty dollar glasses Awhich were found over in the next yard smashed to bits. Minister Exonerated The Rev. B. J. White South Bend has been exonerated of blame in the death of Andrew Rich 58 who died of injuries suffered when he was struck by the ministers automobile while walking on a road near LaPorte. A finding of Cororner John Foster LaPorte county cleared the minister, . . Tax Collections On Gasoline October gasoline sales increased 2,855,222 gallons a 7.6 per cent gain over sales for October 1928 the state gasoline tax zureau figures indicated today. ; seveids Tax collections amounted to $1,692795.17 a gain of -$491,105.47 over last year. : _ ' . Death of Mrs, Curtis - Mrs. Adaline Curtis aged mother of Mrs. C. C. Ullery was ‘laid to rest at: Traverse City, Mich., Saturday afteri‘noon. Mrs. Ullery will remain 'in ‘Traverse City for a while in order to assist in settleing business matters.
