Mother and Child Escape Serious injuries While Home Damaged By : Fire at Goshen Damage amounting tc $6OO resuited early Sunday morning when a gasoline stove exploded and set fire to the home of Alvin Hawk in Goshen, A two-year-old baby held in the arms of its mother Mrs. Hawk was slightly burned when the explosion caused her to drop the chiid. . Mrs. Hawk was filling the stove with gasoline and held the child in one arm when i nsome way the tank of gasoline became ignited and exploded, Although‘the flames spread rapidly NMirs. - Elkhart palice today were searching for a man who Saturday night dashed from the Steele Jewelry store in Elkhart through the crowded Main{street with a $250 diamond ring. . The man was followed to the first alley south of the store by Mrs. Steele who had been waiting on the man, At this point the pursuit was taken up by Clair Bigler who is employed in the jewelry store Bigler and another man followed the thief for a short distance before he disappeared. Arrested in Goshen
Al Gillespie 47 of- Elkhart was arrested at Goshen S;\tur(hxy night for Ligonier authorities who sought to charge the man with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. He was reieased from jail Monday however on consent of Ligonier autorities. Following an accident near Ligonier in which Gillespie's car was involved, it is said he accepted a ride to Goshen. | : Mosier Coniesses Murder ~ Elvin Mosier 62 of Elkhart confess“ed Sunday after 27 hours of guestionting to the -murder of Minnie Maude Tallas 45 wife of a Mexican laborer whose mutilated body was found in the front yard of her home at north edge of Elkhart, late Friday afternoen, Mosier was arrested immediately after he reported the finding of the woman’s hody. ' Sentenced To Prison Terms Entering a plea of guilty to second degree burglary in circuit court atWarsaw Virgil Johnson 23 of Hamilton W. Va., and Paul Thomas of Grand Rapids, Mich., were sentenced to the state reformatory for a term of two to ten vears; fined $5O and costs and disbarred from holding office for five years. ' ; .
